I've been to some 'sinful' places around the world, and in comparison Las Vegas felt like Disneyland. The floor shows aren't really considered all that bad (heck even family entertainment), and there weren't many strip clubs in sight. The brothels, I understand, aren't even allowed on the strip. The only thing was what appeared to be Mexicans handing out escort cards.

I suppose there's gluttony, greed and all that...like those ridiculous buffets (which I indulged in ).

Anyway do you feel Vegas is becoming more sanitized? I saw plenty of families/kids/teenagers out and about at night when I was there last July. It's more adult-orientated than Disneyland, but it's definitely more kid friendly than in the past. There are a lot of things that children would enjoy imo.

If so, would you say it's a good or bad thing?

Personally I think its nothing close to a sin city. Nowadays, that reputation comes from it being a resort town where you can drink, gamble, and eat whatever you want 24 hours a day. Remember, most Americans (and even some foreigners) are coming from places that dont sell alcohol on Sundays and all of their eating establishments that arent a Denny's are closed by 9pm, etc.
I agree that though it doesnt have to be family friendly, a family of four shouldnt be made to feel unwelcome when it comes to going out to eat or traversing through casino, which to be fair I dont think they ever have in modern history. If they were only catering to the singletons they wouldnt be making near as much money.
I dont think its good or bad, those that want to find "sin" can quite easily. Sex and drugs are easy to find on the strip, you just have to know where to look. I personally think that strip clubs should be on the strip. You could easily put them in the big casinos behind a black door if you will and only those that wanted to go could, and those that didnt could easily walk past it to the buffet. I agree with brothels and I think they should be allowed within the city limits, but Im not sure how they could be incorporated on the strip or within the big hotels. It would be too corporate and mechanical anyway.

Everything that Vegas has to offer should be easily accessible on th strip. You should not have to go to drive 2 hours for legal brothels(pahrump), 5 hours for legal marijuana(Cali) and dangerous/off the beaten paths for variety of strip clubs(Industrial rd, Palominos).

I think it's fine that Vegas offers a little bit for everyone.

The SIN is still there, there are strip clubs, plenty of prostitutes (albeit illegal), drinking 24/7 and at least a few places to gamble But you can find all of those things in just about any state in America. Adopting kid friendly areas only makes sense business wise. Families know that they can go to Vegas, have things for their kids, have things for the whole family to enjoy together, and still have places where they can indulge in adult entertainment.

I feel the opposite. I find it a shame that in a country that offers PLENTY for kids and families to do that there can't be ONE place that is more for adults only.

No one under 21 is allowed to gamble, party at nightclubs, or go to strip clubs. There are plenty of restaurants that have created an atmosphere and menu that most parents would not venture to with the kids, so I think that there is plenty to do for adults only in Vegas.
I will agree though that I have been to some places on this globe that would put Las Vegas to shame when it comes to vice and you wouldnt see people with their preteen kids or pushing toddlers in strollers at midnight on the strip like you do in LV.

Las Vegas for the tourist is not, IMO, more kid friendly nowadays. Back in the 80's the ad campaign was geared to "bring the kiddies" and the expose on 20/20 showed children being dumped in hallways and lobbies and left there so the parents could go on to enjoy the more adult things Las Vegas has to offer, namely gaming.

You see plenty of kids in the tourist corridors because the parents simply HAVE to bring them, there is no one who could watch them and of course, everyone has to have a Vegas Vacation, even with the kiddies in tow.

I personally feel kids shouldn't be allowed in all the hotels (not just a couple of them) or anywhere in the tourist corridors, but that's just my opinion. I've seen plenty of kids screaming in their strollers at 1:30am while the two parents take turns hitting the slots or tables while the other parent walks the kid up and down away from the gaming areas. But of course, you see kids screaming like that at Disney also, but at least Disney IS FOR KIDS.

We are blessed to live in a place that can be anything you want it to be. If you want it sexy and raunchy, it is. If you want it a great family vacation, it is. There are plenty of spectacles here to see, but it's been a long time since Vegas has been marketed and touted as a "family destination vacation."

For the US, it's sin city. Compared to a lot of foreign cities, it's Disneyland.

I remember seeing a story about this. The old ad campaign backfired; people who went to Vegas for adult fun found themselves feeling awkward when there was kids around. I think that was when they changed the focus and adapted the "what happens in Vegas..." campaign to lure adults back to what Vegas is really about.

I agree that kids shouldn't be allowed in many hotels and tourist areas. Just because they aren't in the actual gaming part of the casino doesn't mean they aren't exposed to what is "adult" about those areas.

And someone mentioned that certain restaurants don't cater to kids...well, that doesn't stop people from bringing their kids along anyway. Some people simply feel they should be entitled to take their kids everywhere, whether the world likes it or not.

I don't have kids (obviously LOL) but I can't imagine wanting to take kids to Vegas! (and I know lots of parents who say the same) I'd take them to one of the 100s of places around the US that are JUST for kids.
