2 inch med or med well reminds me of the time my parents took my in-laws out for dinner. This was about a month before we were married. My in-laws. not to be the type that ate steak, paid much attention to ediquette and were just plain ole, nice, people, raised on farms had made no attemp to talk to my parents about the wedding plans. We were having a very large wedding, hubby's mom didn't know anything about rehearsal parties, what to wear to the wedding or anything so my parents took the bull by the horns. They had a favorite steak house in Glendale, Ca they partroized at least monthly and invited my future in-laws to join them for dinner one Sunday afternoon.

Well being, typical farmers dinner is at noon or 1pm on Sundays especially. My parents suggersted 4pm for dinner. Hubby's parents showed up on time, but they had already eaten. We did go out anyway, they managed to order. Of course his mom did not drink alcohol or soda at all so she ordered coffee before dinner and I don't remember about his dad. When it was time to order our steak his dad ordered filet well done. The waitress informed him she the chef would have to butterfly it. Can you imagine the look on his face, he had no clue what the heck she was talking about? Hubby's mom kept it simple, she ordered chopped sirloin. That was ok, but when it came she wondered why it wasn't chopped up like it was supposed to be. Yes, 54 years later we are still married, no, hubby doesn't eat like they did on the farm...

Very true. On the US version of the show, Gordon is really hard on people and comes off as quite an ***. ON the UK version, he's often quite sweet with people. I've seen a lot of cretive editing on the US version to make it seem more dramatic.

For instance, a major fight between owner and head chef that supposedly happened in the middle of dinner service where customers could hear really happened BEFORE any customers were even in the place...I could tell by the time on the clock on the wall behind them and what the owner's wife was wearing. (I pay attention to details LOL)

Thanks for all the replies.

I usually go to the Sunset Station and Fiesta Henderson buffets, occasionally to GVR.

I'll try out the Rio Carnival buffet when I'm in Vegas in May.

I'm not a picky eater, so I'll pretty much eat anything. The only exception is dairy as I'm lactose intolerant, which prevents me from enjoying all the great looking deserts.

We also love the small places like Timbers and those type of "pubs" or whatever they are called.. We go to one when we are in town (can't remember the name) and after midnight we can get a steak dinner for $1.99...Steak, veggie, potatoe.....Drink extra..

NOW that being said I am sure some people will tell me they would rather eat dirt than a steak that cheap or something like that, BUT the steak is good, always cooked the way I like it and so are the rest....
And I stand by my comment of pay a little or pay a lot and you can still get a good meal or a crappy one....

Also a lot of people wouldn't know a good steak if it bit them on there ass...

On the US version even and something as a door slamming and they have to do the dramatic "thud!" sound effect or when like when someone slyly smiles or raises an eyebrow they have to do the "ching!" sound affect. So fking stupid.

Although the menu has been scaled back since they first started this promo (sea bass skewers and a couple other of my favorites are still available but at an up-charge) this is still a phenomenal deal.

Getting back to the main point of the thread... Rio Carnival buffet is nothing to call home about but I can easily justify the $14 in crab legs with no complaints. The rest of the food is pretty meh and similar to the quality you'll find at Stations' Feast buffets (including RR and GVR).

Remember that the $14 is for LOCALS, not us tourists.

So what if gas is more. The key factor should be peoples disposible income.Peoples acsess to credit has gone wayyy down since 2001.What about wages they sure haven't gone up for 80% of the population.Vegas should be offering the moon to people willing to fly there and gamble at their establishments. Why is vegas so unwilling to bring back loss leader food.

It is hard to believe for some..You are right, of course. Those days are long gone, but there are good bargains out there, if people just pay attention. (not on gas, darnit) I could go back even further, in the 80s and even 90s you could still find decent, but not great Sunday chamgaign bruch for under $6.00. I have a feeling my husband's cousins, who haven't been to Vegas since 1988 are really going to be shocked when we meet them 2 weeks from today.
