Can we just keep them over there, please? They don't tip well.

So it's the gamblers versus the non gamblers.

I actually wish I could have a good time gambling, but I can't. My mind won't let me. :-(

Please, guys- stop. Life is too short to go around being a douche for no reason. Trust me. I have a lot of experience with death at the moment. Life seems better.

It's like my Mom used to tell me.. "Be nice"

Job security for the mods, I suppose!

It's only fun gambling when you are winning.

Your CD rep numbers look lucky. Maybe time to hit that Lion's Share slot from a previous thread.

A very long response that neglects a central premise -- the actual card play of Texas Hold'em requires no thought whatsoever. And while I'll grant you that "knowing then to hold'em and knowing when to fold'em" is a skill. Actually playing the game requires no skill at all.

Compare that to cribbage, where the player must decide what two cards to send into the third hand (posession of which alternates every other round), and then the actual play of the cards before counting points. There is the randomness of the hand dealt. But that averages out over time. And the cut card effects both players equally. The player's card-playing ability will determine who wins more often and by how much.

Card-playing ability. Not the wearing of goofy sunglasses, hoodies, and generally acting like a *******. The same with bridge -- the experts will beat the novices every time. This is a game that can be learned and perfected like a musical instrument. What little I've seen of hold'em always boils down to two ******** going all in and then watching as random chance decides the winner. They may as well cut and see who has high card. No skill at all.

In a cribbage game, the better player will almost ALWAYS prevail in a series of five games. I would just say "always" but there is a very slight chance that the inferior player has a lucky streak of epic proportions and wins. But that would be a very rare event, indeed. An expert cribbage player can sit down at a money game and KNOW that he or she is going to leave a winner. Can the expert poker player say the same thing?

And THAT is why casinos like Hold'em. There is the idea that any schlub can have a hot night and "take" someone's money. People are willing to play against superior players because there's always the chance of being dealt pocket aces and getting a good flop. And that's why casino's DON'T like games of skill. That "any given day" angle is negated.
If the point of your central premise is that bridge and cribbage are card games where the primary strategy is around doiing things with the cards in your hand and hold'em and BJ are games where the strategy is in how you make betting decisions then we can be in agreement.

Where you are still incorrect is in that poker and BJ have little skill required in them just because you don't tactically play the cards you are dealt to determine the outcome. I will absolutely grant you that probability and variance play way more into the betting games than in the card playing games, but I will still contend that skilled poker and BJ players will have better long term outcomes than novices and that expert poker players will outplay novices the vast majority of the time. I don't know how to equate poker and blackjack to a 3 or 5 game bridge or cribbage match. Except for possibly a heads up poker tournament, which I don't see in casinos, there's not really an equivalent. I can meet you halfway as long as you recognize that the skills are different. I won't try to convince you that the betting games require as much skill as the others because I know I have no chance of that.

I just can't lay off your last paragraph though. Casinos DO NOT like hold'em, with the exception of WSOP because it brings in so much foot traffic and revenue in more than just gaming terms. The casinos TOLERATE hold'em. Poker is not big for revenue generation, profit per square foot or any of the positive KPIs casinos typically care about. Over the past few years, more poker rooms shrank or disappeared versus expanded or were created. The potential for a big score is more tournament-oriented than cash game oriented. Unless novices already have enough bankroll that they don't have to worry about replenshing it, they are not going to sit at a high stakes cash game wth a pro because they know they will get wiped and instead of just shaking their hand ans saying, nice match and having it be over, they will be going home thousands of dollars lighter. But in any case, casinos don't like those other games of skill because they can't make any money off them. If the world chess championship were held in Vegas and the winner got $X million and it was shown on television, then Vegas might tolerate that game too.

Of course, except for the high rollers and true ballers, most of the people that play games of skill are typically not the people that actually spend the most money in a casino. That said, the younger genertion may not be a gambling one, but they do seem to spread the money around if they have it. (tried to bring it back around)
