Hello,

Here's my story. I am a slot technician in PA. I believe I will have a job at a casino on the strip, starting in the next 5 weeks(I take my drug test tomorrow). I am married and have 2 dogs and 2 cats. My plan is to move out to Vegas alone for a month until my wife can finish the loose ends here. She will also have to find a job there(She's a radioligist). I will need a place to stay that will have access to a bus that goes to the strip and most importantly is safe. I figure I'll only need to be there for a month or two until she gets there and we find a home to buy. I don't want some place that's expensive. Just a bed, tv, wifi and safety. Animals allowed would be a plus if we get delayed a month in finding a home. Any suggestions?

We've been scouting homes and I think we like Summerlin as it seems the safest area in Vegas. If anyone else has any thoughts on that it'd be appreciated also.

This may be a shot in the dark also, but does anyone know if MGM helps with this or any moving expenses? I'll ask HR once they officially offer me the job, but hey, it doesn't hurt to ask the locals

I wish the casino would just toss me a room for a month or two until we get settled in.

You need a car. Drive out from PA. Stay in one of those extended stay motels down trop from the MGM for a couple hundred a week or less until you get situated.

If you are really going to do the carless bit try the Budget Suites on LV Blvd. Set that up for a couple of weeks and then you can decide what to do next.

I also agree you should try to drive out if you can. Miserable town without a car.

I wouldn't want to go house hunting without a car. And what are you going to do on your days off if not house hunting?

I'd seriously rethink the car.

I have a Honda S2000. I found a company that'll ship for $750. Well worth the gas/pain in the @ss factor of the 2200 mile drive. So, change of plans...I'll have my car shipped and be there to pick it up when I get there. That gives me more options where I can stay. Great idea I was told that the bus goes anywhere and I could survive without a car for awhile. I hate being without a car anyways. I feel trapped where I'm at. So, if I go that route, anyone recommended for renting for a month or two?

You can rent damned near ANYWHERE. When you get down to it, most of Las Vegas' neighborhoods look like they got whacked with a clone stick. And unless you rent a place surrounded by check-cashing stores, you're likely in as safe an area as any other.

Also, the bus does NOT go everywhere. And the places it goes, it stops. every. 500. feet. Have. fun. with. that. Seriously. it's. not. worth. it.
