They charge 10 cents a minute to talk, and 20 cents for a text message. That's the cheapest we've found; even cheaper than the $10 a month plans. When somebody makes a cell phone that works like my home phone I'll go with that. Meantime, cell phones are too frustrating to use for anything but emergencies or a quick call home to see if Carol wants a Starbucks.

I had a company I-Phone. I wasn't that impressed. I have a cheap Cricket plan / phone now. $35 a month. The only problem is that the number used to belong to a person with a very "interesting" profession, so I get some crazy text messages.

I recently purchased Straight Talk at Wal Mart.(also available online) I got a Samsung Android phone and $45 a month unlimited plan. Since my previous cell phone was an antique with nothing but calling, I am learning this new one slowly.
Basically, the kids wanted me to be able to text and check my Facebook, so this is what I came up with. Also needed to be able to call the hubby when we are wandering the casinos....so he got the antique phone.
I have gone to Facebook and my e-mail online with no problem. But then I do not plan to download or do anything fancy, so I can't speak to those.. It has a GPS which I have not played with and several other functions.
If I can do the limited things I want for 45 a month I am more than pleased.

I tried cricket out for a month when first moved to Vegas. The best rates as far as plans go, but I could not even check sports scores or ESPN without extremely long loading times.

I had to let them go.

My mom needed a no frills talk and text phone with no data. Bought a Samsung Freeform (looks like blackberry) and unlimitted talk and text for $25 (metro pcs). I'm not sure if they still have that promotion but its normally $40 a month with data. It works good all over town as far as I know.

If you already have an iphone on AT&T and your contract is going to expire you can use it with T-Mobile. Do not sign a contract - go prepaid, prepaid plans are universally cheaper. If you want to buy an iphone, cricket and Virgin Mobile let you buy it up front from them (currently only 4 and 4s models) and then go prepaid. Virgin has a plan that is only $30/month for 300 minutes, unlimited texting and 2.5GB at 3G/4G speeds, then 2G for anything over 2.5GB.

We use Straight talk with our Iphones, $45.77 with tax and everything is unlimited. Waiting to find out who will have a plan that will be pre-paid for the Iphone 5, want to make sure that we can use the 4g capabilities. I hate having to get suck in contracts. Plus, some of the pre-paid plans that are unlimited are better then when you sign the contract. The only thing that is good about contracts is that you get the phones cheaper.
