My kinda guy...or gal...whichever.

Our Indian guide was very helpful. One of the things he told us was that we non-Indians look at the rocks as beautiful...they see them as evil spirits...and the land is beautiful. He didn't know that Carol is part Cherokee I guess, and she still likes the rocks,,,and the land too.

Ever been to Chaco Canyon? Or how about the Stone Lions ruins? Very spooky things happened while we were camping there overnight one time.

They go to the real New York, New York (not NYNY), of course!
We frequently go to France, Italy, Egypt, Mexico, New York, China, Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, the Emerald City, and ancient England...and never leave town.

You've had to have visited Cheorkee, NC, then, right? Spent a long weekend down there camping in the Great Smoky Mountains this past summer. Absolutely beautiful! That's what's great about this country of ours...the national park system. With regions so varying (think Death Valley NP and The Great Smokies, actually visited both in 2007) and the beauty preserved in both.

The National Park system is one of the things that this country did so well.

(PS...Harrah's runs a 1st class casino/hotel for the Cherokee tribe, in NC)

jfkIII,
Going off topic, sorry, but would you mind telling me what part of Upstate NY you live in?
Just curious. Never been there, but know it is Beautiful Upstate, and my husband and I have plans to visit the area.

If you like to ski/snowboard and want something more challenging than Mt. Charleston, check out Brian Head Utah. We went last winter for a week and had a great time. It is about a 3 hour drive from Las Vegas and you can stay in St. George if you want or right in Brian Head. Prices are very reasonable and there is an absolute ton of things to do. You don't even have to know how to ski or snowboard to enjoy yourself. They have "ski school" for the kids, my 5 year old spent the entire day there for $75 wich includes all her equipment and one on one lessons. We will be returning this year also. If anyone knows of any other ski places that are in driving distance of Las Vegas I would love to hear about them.
Thanks

Brian Head has already got some snow! (not ski/board worthy yet, but a prequel to the season...and it is pbby just a trace now)

as for other areas, i asked that a bunch before i moved out here...Brian Head comes up at the top of the list each time (proximity and quality). there are places in CA that are only a couple of hours away also (big bear, etc.) but the are more expensive, have more people, and often less snow.

now, that being said, i have never been to Brian Head, so i can't give anything other than word of mouth comparisons, but i look fwd to hitting the slopes soon
