I am looking for some advice - from people who live in Vegas and from people who have stayed there.

Approximately 3 couples are planning a trip to Vegas, in the next 12 months (we are still trying to decide when). I am aiming for the week after Christmas (being there for NYE), If I can convince them to go then.

I keep looking at the hotels and I cant decide which one is the 'best'.

Obviously, as adults leaving our kids at home we don't want somewhere crowded with kids, so Circus Circus is out. We will probably gamble some and enjoy the nightlife a lot. I think we want to stay on the strip. Only one of the couples has been to Vegas, but it was for work and they didn't get to do much otherwise.

So if you have an opinion on hotels in Vegas, please post.

The Palazzo is spectacular! Between it and the attached Venetian, they have dozens of restaurants. All of the rooms are suites, and the decor is sublime. Take a look at their website for more info.
I go to LV several times per year, and have reached the point where that is the only place I stay. I used to alternate with the Wynn, but I really like the Palazzo better.
Re: New year's Eve: Often, you can't get rooms at ANY price in LV for that night. Most casinos give the rooms to their best players, that night. If you can find rooms, I would expect that to be the most expensive night of the year.
Have fun whatever you decide!

Many years ago, I was a moderator on a travel forum. Once or twice a year, we would sponsor a get together that would attract 50 people from around the country. The 50 people would stay in 20-25 different hotels depending on their comp status, personal tastes, and their budgets.

My point is that it is unrealistic for anyone to post reviews on 50-60 Las Vegas casino-hotel properties.

The information you need to provide include:

1) Have you been to Las Vegas and what did you like then?
2) What is your budget?
3) Do you plan on drinking (and therefore, want to avoid driving)?
4) Do you prefer to casino hop or to largely stay at one casino?
5) What activities are you looking for?

Personally, I like to stay OFF-STRIP in a place where I can head down to the casino occasionally and a place where I can get a cheap meal on the nights where I am not enjoying fine dining. And I like a place with lower rates and nice rooms. So I prefer places like Sunset Station, Orleans, Gold Coast, and the like.

I have gone the last 3 years for a business conference and have stayed at the Mirage and Monte Carlo. Mirage was nicer and a lot more lively but not overly crazy like some of the bigger ones, and you could walk to several others in the evening. Both seemed reasonable at $60-70/night but then they add a $20/night resort fee in addition to the taxes. After spending evenings wandering around at other casinos near Monte Carlo I would probably stay at Bellagio or Aria if going there for a vacation. I don't need anything that nice when working all day and without my wife.

Someone needs to have a get together at someone's house so that everyone can huddle around the computer screen.

Budget... your biggest concern.
after that pick a property based on your needs.
No help yet, because you have not laid out how much you are willing to spend. Time of year is also important in that equation.

If you are going to stay over New Year's you should look into the MGM Signature Suites through VRBO.

Like some of the hotels if your on FB so you can see some of the deals they post. basically anywhere on the strip is ok because to get up and down the strip you can just buy a buss pass if you want.

NYE is VERY expensive even for a cheap hotel. We always stay at Bally's due to it's location being center Strip and it's a clean, nice size room. Nothing fancy, but you can't beat it for convenience!
