I don't believe the city should or has the right to ENDORSE a private business and allow that private business to use the city logo and what appears to be city letterhead! The company, Service Line Warranties, appears to be legit, but I'm sure other companies are too.

Maybe I should start a pizza business and pay the city a royalty to the city for their endorsement!

Interestingly, the postage on the letter from the company is paid in Florida and the return business envelope has a PA address.

It's a scam and it's real. The city making agreements scamming for more money to mis-manage and put into their own pension-pockets. I agree with JimminSummerlin!!!!! Unbelievable, the City of Las Vegas renting it's logo to a sewer line warranty company for money. I personally received this "offical" looking letter thinking it was from the city. The more I read it the more I realized it was junk mail. When I asked neighbors if they received the letter, one of them told me about this article in the RJ. ~ The company is paying Las Vegas a $74,187 brand license fee, under its three-year agreement with the city. The CITY also gets 10 PERCENT of the REVENUE the company receives from Las Vegas homeowners signing up for the program. What's that I say? My "additional (hidden) taxes" being labeled as warranty costs? Looks like another way for the city to tax without calling it taxes. The following articel is in the RJ ~ City of Las Vegas lends logo to sewer line insurer | Las Vegas Review-Journal

They can't loose.
In addition, the city receives 10% of the revenues that homeowners pay. More hidden taxes anyone? The city shouldn't be endorsing a company.

Where do you guys gets this view that cities can't capture opportunities?

I would think you should praise their initiatives.

Provides a service to the citizen while making a few dollars for the municipality.

I mean in a place with the Fremont Street Experience you are concerned about government invading commercial stuff?

Please.

Of course the city can rent out their logo and be profited from it. But it needs to be disclosed, and the junk mail should have a disclaimer, saying this business pays the city for using city logo as a marketing tool, and that the city does not endorse the business, nor does it require residents to purchase from this business.
I hope the policy department don't start selling their logo to other security service business. lol

I would expect they can tell from a cleanout. But they have to be there to do that
They have these things called fiber optic cameras now.

The story was on Ch-3 news tonight, but it's not up on their website yet. When I paid my sewer bill on line the other day, they were running a disclaimer that sounded like they weren't indorsing it. Now they sound like they are.

That was the point. Someone has to show up at the house to determine where the blockage is...

Who pays for that? And it ain't cheap.

You could do a sniff test.

So, I'm wondering (because mo'lady just ask me again) what the consensus is. Do I need to buy sewer insurance?

Next up - do I need flood insurance now that there is another development blocking ours from getting water, and a channel has been built to carry any other water away?
