My name is Keith Jackson. Im 23 and live in kentucky.

Im looking for a change, and im considering vegas. I currenty work for my father, doing construction managment for his company. As the housing market is droping its looking more and more like a carrer change for both of us. My goal is to get my Home Inspector license, Then get certified for my state. Sometime after this, maybe next spring, Id like to find a job with a home inspection firm, and try to have things set up for me when I get there.

My questions are, is anyone familiar with this profession and the availability of this job? What kinda price range should I expect to find apts in near Las Vegas, and maybe what areas to avoid. What are average wages for the area?

The catch, I also like to play cards, which is one reason Vegas is top on my list. Of course there are card games everyday of the week where I live anyway, im one and a half hours from gambling boats already, and I have no problems with only playing when I can aford it. Should I worry about this, and maybe consider it as a reason to pick somewhere else?

Thanks a lot.
Keith

Jobs are plentiful. Average wage by a small business is 32K. Starting depends but retail and such maybe 20K. Rents start at around 650 and go up to the sky.

Inspectors are independient contractors and are probably mostly starving at the moment. No home sales no inspections.

Bug guys do OK...another good field is Heathing/AC. Pool guys do ok. Lots of good commercial construction work. Residental is very low.

If your gaming is controlled and disciplined...you never lose the rent money...you are OK. If you ever bet the rent money stay away...this place is poison. There is a lot of poker action. The locals are very, very good. You will invest a lot before you can hold your own.

Dude.. first of all, NEVER EVER post your FULL NAME on the internet!!!! That right there tells me you are no where near street smart enough for Vegas. This town will chew you up and spit you out. Why would you come all the way from Kentucky to play cards? You won't have your daddy here to bail you out when you lose your pay check at the tables. Stay in Kentucky and play your little boat games, your post screams that you are just a babe in the woods.

Yes, but unfortunately for him, Las Vegas will welcome him with open arms!

Nope Las Vegas welcomes no one other than a tourist with open arms. Treats a new comer just like ever other city does.

First of all, i write high school sports for a local website. You can google my name in relation to h.s. sports and ill pop up all over the place, my names already out there. Matter-a-fact there is someone with the exact same name here in town, he was a few years older then me in school, but thats beyond the point. Oh yeah, watch out for a phone book, its got more info in there about you and I then youll find on the internet.

I never said I was coming to Las Vegas to play cards, its only a plus when im considering where to move to. I dont need my "daddy" here or there to bail me out, maybe your own past experance shows you have no self control and you assume everyone else is the same. Im a very responsible person and I know how to manage my money, and little boat games? you assume that your casinos are any diff then the gambling boats? You know the old saying about assuming things right??

So your saying I should expect to pay 650 a month for a one room apt? How much should I expect bills to run?

Anyone else have anything to add?

You will do fine here. It is no big deal. Mostly just another city. I would expect most other costs to be similar to a Louisville or Cinncinati. 7.75% sales tax. No income tax. Moderate to low property tax. You get nailed a bit on car insurance and property tax on automibles. Utilities are generally small with the exception of summer electric which can hit $100 a month in the summer lime unless you are very frugal with the air.

And there are advantages to gaming here. The VP machines for instance are straight. Virtually everywhere else they are gimmicked as slot machines. Here they play a straignt deck as indicated.

our sales tax is 6% here. So no income tax? Car insurance about 110 a month for my jeep wrangler.

although i think he meant it in an informative way, i kinda agree. ease up on the flaming ! anyways, my pops also wanted to be a building inspector. (not sure if theres a big difference btwn home and building ?) but he found no luck in that field. im guessing its because of the housing market slump ? i was told that if you arent too picky about jobs, then youll find one easily. all you need is 702 phone number or something like that.
