We're possibly moving to Vegas for my husband's work soon. I've read a lot of threads on here on safe areas to live and looked into the apartment recommendations so I have some ideas. I thought I'd ask on here to see what local suggestions you might all have recently for what we're looking for.

It's just my husband and I for now but we'd like to start a family within a year. We're looking for a 2 bedroom that includes a washer/dryer and dishwasher in the unit and an on site workout facility. I'd like a grocery store nearby and some nice businesses to patron like a movie theater, local bakery and other shops within walking distance. We'd like to pay around $700 - $800 a month to live comfortable and have some extra cash to explore Nevada when we have time together. We can afford $1,200 at the most if need be. It should be in a safe, nice, family friendly area within a 30 minute commute to University Medical Center.

One thing I know you all might be able to explain to me about is I don't understand the sliding scale rent rates in Vegas. I've never come across a rental unit that could cost anywhere between $800 - $1200 depending on the day. From what I can tell from apartment hunting online this seems to be the norm for most apartment rentals in the area. What is this system about? Is there anything I should know about it? I see that there are a lot of three bedroom apartments available and they either cost as much as a two bedroom unit or less, and often times two bedrooms cost as much as one bedrooms or less. The one bedrooms seem the least available and the most expensive for the space available. I'm guessing that's supply and demand and they're trying to lure in people into the undesirable units to rent, but I don't understand why that same unit can change in price from day to day and hour to hour?

Are you sure about that? Rents go up slightly as you get closer to moving season, but it's not hundreds of dollars. Same for day to day changes, rents can change by $50 here and there based on demand, but your description of the situation suggests maybe you are not comparing prices for the same unit.

It could be some of the same one bedroom, or two bedroom, or three bedroom units are different values within the same complex. I've been looking in the luxury apartments category as a basis, but even then the sliding scale rental rates has changed a couple hundred dollars.

In threads in the Vegas forum they even mention this sliding scale rental rate change when you go to renew your lease. It's either move out or pay the increased rates which could be as much as a thousand dollars more at that time. So most of them move out.

For future reference what is the time frame for the moving season in Vegas?

$700-$800 will be tough.. closer to $1000 is more realistic if you want a half decent neighborhood. At 1200, you can get a small house in a decent area

We were looking to buy a house but have since scratched that idea per the recommendation of others who went before us. My husband wanted the house. If it's not our own home I'd rather be in an apartment complex or condos with a gym and pool.

Viva Las Vegas Baby! We're moving to Vegas for residency. Thank you guys for making a pinned moving thread in the last few weeks. I'll have to bury myself in it when we get time.

Operation "pack this place up and move" is on!

Hi Marry,

I suggest looking through Realtor.com or Zillow.com for rentals. In terms of the areas, my suggestion is looking at the Green Valley Ranch area. It is a safe, family developed area suitable for families. Good luck with the rental search and the move. Welcome to the community.
