So... here is the situation.

My boyfriend (28) and I (33), no children (We agree. DINKs for life!) and we are seriously considering relocating to Las Vegas. We have thoroughly enjoyed our previous visits to Vegas, including the limited time we have spent out side of the touristy areas of the strip. It seems like it could potentially be an adult wonderland. On its face Vegas seems to offer a lot that we enjoy (great food, ability to travel outside of the region easily, natural outdoor activities, night life and shows and more)

A lot of the previous postings I have read about should a person or persons move to Las Vegas, I'm not entirely sure if their postings mirror our circumstances. We are not snowbirds, retirees, looking to come out to become professional (or amature) gamblers, nor are we overly concerned about the school systems. We are easily employable, even in Las Vegas' climate.

I've been lurking around the boards for some time now, scouring for information. I would really appreciate the perspective of other DINKs and what they have found that they enjoy or dislike about living in Las Vegas.

Thanks!

C.

This is not an answer to our question.

Moving cross country is not something that I/we want to do every 4weeks if we find we do not enjoy an area. Hence the preemptive research.

I'm not trying to start any drama but you mention your boyfriend and girlfriend and not husband and wife. You could move anywhere and things may not go as planned. I'm not wishing anything bad but I've seen it happen.

That being said your young. Employment isn't a problem along with no kids planned for the future. You have freedom so you have the option to give it a try to see if you like it. As for opinions they really don't mean much because no one is you. So if you think LV May be a good place to live then give it a shot.

Myself I like Vegas due to it being 24hr town and snow isn't a consideration but I have talked to people who want to get out. To me Vegas is a individual consideration because there's no city like it.

Spend a week at a distant off-Strip casino (like Red Rock Canyon casino) in the middle of the summer and rent a car. It's a lot different then life on the Strip. Less glamorous, more mundane, but more realistic.

We're DINKs too and we think Las Vegas is a perfect city for people without kids. Low taxes, low cost of living, great weather, lots to do/eat/experience. Just make sure you live in a decent neighborhood and your life could be ideal.

Let me expand a bit on a post. I don't want it to seem like I know the status of any person's relationship. The thing is I have seen it multiple times where a boyfriend and girl friend move to a city and breakup usually due to the guy getting a taste of a different location and different temptations or whatever. That's why I myself which don't mean much always say only make material decisions with a spouse.

It sounds to me that OP doesn't want advice. OP wants affirmation for a decision that has already been made.

I agree with the advice of "come here for a vacation in July/August and stay away from the Strip." I wouldn't even bother staying at Red Rock. That's still LaLa land. Stay someplace that has a kitchenette and make a couple meals every day at home. Not much of a vacation, but at least OP would get decent feel for what it's like to actually live here.

Also, job prospects? Unless money isn't a concern, I'd have something lined up before moving.

You have answered your own question. That and our libertarian, live and let live lifestyle, is what attracts so many people here (over 1.5 million from 1987 to 2007, and last year alone, another 32,000).

We long time locals only fear that people come here with other ideas (laws and restrictions that never worked where you were from in the first place) and want to force those suppressive restrictions on us. It's been happening slowly but surely.
