My spouse is in a portable wheelchair for a month, and her physician has given her a temporary handicapped parking placard.

However, the few times we've hoped to use it so far, it seems that handicapped parking is always full. I don't think it is a lack of capacity of spaces -- my impression is that there are a lot of people with these. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't care, but I also notice for the most part the people who use the handicapped parking spaces are not elderly with an oxygen tank, but rather able-bodied adults frequently driving a jacked-up high performance off-road pickup truck for which they need to climb high to enter.

Everyone deserves their choice of vehicles, of course - but I find it more than a bit ironic that 30-something big strong men park their lifted trucks in handicapped parking, clearly walking/running with no infirmity while someone in a wheelchair ends up parking pretty far back.

OK, my rant is over.

I'm guessing they were diagnosed egomaniacs, which in my opinion is as a full on disability, but you're right, they should not be entitled to those parking spots.

"able bodied"...."with no infirmity"

Not every disability is readily apparent.

It appears that this is an issue that you never noticed until it affected you or a family member.
Other than a "RANT" your opinion is just that, an opinion.
While your opinion does not matter to the rest of society, the law does. I copied the NV DMV link that addresses the LAW

True. But in many cases (muscle-dude with jacked-up truck) the only apparent disability is "paralyzing fear of not getting a good parking spot." Meanwhile the person who doesn't have legs parks in the back. We've all seen this sort of thing. I'd never say anything because you're right -- not every disability is readily apparent. But I'd love to hear the perspective of the legless guy who just got his parking space jacked.

It's like the people in the wheelchairs going through airport security who HALLELUJAH can not only walk but they can sprint to their gate once they're pushed through security in front of everyone else.

Or the precious people who have their incontinent chihuahua anointed as a "service animal" so they can take it into restaurants and supermarkets, and the animal then nips at people and urinates and defecates everywhere.

Give some people preferential treatment and there will be those who abuse the system. And I have a feeling that kind of abuse is more prevalent in Las Vegas. It's the same overdeveloped sense of entitlement that gives people the "right" to run red lights.

I have a friend my age with a very tall lifted truck and he has a placard. He T- boned a garbage truck many years ago and broke his back, hence the placard BUT most of the time he gets around just fine and can physically get most anything done that I can.

Although there are people that truly need a handicap placard, I feel that there are a great many that take advantage with every little ailment. The last thread I got involved in, I got flamed to death, so I'm going to shut up right here and go about my day. Lol
