We are redoing the floors and we know not to install real wood in a dry climate like Vegas. Has anyone installed the engineered wood product. We want the wood look and look at the engineered and the laminated wood look floors. The price different for product and install at floor and decor for 1000 Sqft eng wood 8000 and laminated 4000. I looking for your advise of pro and cons of both.

Thanks Again

Wow....that seems like a lot for laminate... Lowes is less than $2 sf to install, I believe about 1.50. The laminate should be around $1sf..

Laminate has a fatal flaw. If it is scratched, marred, or damaged in any way (like spilling a lot of water on it), there is no way to fix it. Wood can be sanded and refinished.

I have real wood and I'm quite happy with it. It looks great. But good luck finding anyone willing to install a real wood floor in Las Vegas. The trick is to wait until the moisture content goes below 6%. (Because it's never going to rise above 6% in the Mojave.)

Wood floors in this climate shrink, stay shrunk, and never expand.

Real wood is fine here. Outside, it takes some upkeep, but most homes have it.

Consider the wood-look ceramic tile. Beauty of wood and the coolness and low maintenance of tile.

I was faced with a similar decision back in August 13 and after extensive research and many quotes I went with engineered from Nu-Look flooring. Best price I could find, great selection, timely install. Don't regret not going with wood or laminate. In-fact my mother was just here and commented that she liked my floors better than her wood floors. Up-keep very easy too and we have over 2,000 square feet of it. My .02, oh and btw, I did have wood floors at one time however, they were original in a house that was built in 1940 so probably not an apples to apples comparison to today's wood floors.

Go with a polished concrete floor. Or even terrazo. Wood is only good for furniture. LOL IMHO.

what would you advice to go with if you have pets and easy to clean? I hate having 80% of house with carpet.
