Why have grades? Just teach the test. If a kid has zero credits yet passes the proficiency exams can they still walk?
Angry parents believe non-graduates should still be allowed to walk - www.ktnv.com

I just think it's nuts to go through school with all the testing and concern over grades for 12 years and then fail the proficiency. Just teach the test. If a certain percentage of students fail then cut the boards salary for the next school year.

I agree. Just so pathetic! Parents should be held account for their kid's performance in school. No more trophies for just showing up and I don't care if their feelings get hurt.

The thing is if the kid has passing grades through the 4 years how can the parents be blamed? I just think it's wrong to go the 12 years, pass all the classes and then get hung up on a proficiency and cant graduate. Maybe employers should test employees on company products and history to get a raise or keep their job. Great evaluations mean nothing.

I agree and Florida got sued over this ten years ago. The court ordered them to suspend their own state testing and they paid Texas to use the one TX had developed. Students who had great GPA's weren't able to pass the Florida test (FCAT) and a few lost their college scholarship offers over it. Major kerfuffle.

Certificate of Attendance means the student did not complete high school, but attended sufficient days. Typically you see this with students with severe cognitive impairments. They participate in high school programs through their 22nd birthday and then move on to a skill program hopefully so they can get some kind of employment.

But it's also used for these kids who don't have any disability other than the one formed by lack of parenting. It's not a diploma and they can't use it for anything other than to go get a GED test.

Someone should post a link to sample proficiency exams in all four subjects, then forum members should take the test and post their scores.

For example: http://www.ccsd.net/resources/math-i...spring2011.pdf
