Hi,

Was just wondering what time people go out for a walk, jog, or run during the summer??

November.

I see people during the summer out there jogging around town, or riding their bike out by Red Rock or something, but VERY infrequently. I don't think that a lot of people do much strenuous stuff outdoors during the summer.

In the evening, around 6:30-7 pm, sometimes even at 7:30pm, just walking around the neighborhood. In the winter, when the time changes and it's dark out early, I switch it up to mornings around 9 or 10:00 am.

Anytime at the gym. Take out a 3 month membership for the summer. Heat stroke is a killer.

You exercise at nearly the hottest time of the day during the summer? I see a few brave people out at this time, but not too many. Most in the summer seem to keep their activities inside after 9am.

I only exercise outdoors in the cooler months. Late September(evenings) to early Spring. The rest of the time indoors. I see many people running in 100+ temps and I often wonder about their sanity. Or maybe they just love the heat.

Generally, I don't exercise outside during the peak summer months. On the rare occasion, I may run a few miles at about 2 AM - 3 AM when it's dark & cooler, but I keep weird hours. It would seem one is just inviting trouble by trying to do strenuous exercise in 100 degree heat.

More often than not, I go to the gym - the '24 hour' part of 24 Hour Fitness works great for me. I'll often stop to swim a mile on the way home at a weird hour like 4 AM. The great part is I generally have the pool to myself to swim laps & I can be focused in a peaceful environment.

When the weather gets cooler I will tend to exercise more outdoors. I used to run by Lake Michigan in Chicago in shorts & a sweatshirt when it was 35-40 degrees outside, so any cold here doesn't really bother me when I exercise. It's usually 50-60 degrees during the day in the coldest part of winter (December-January) & I find that just fine for running weather.

Before 8am or after 7pm for me. I did a 5k last week that started at 9am and I thought I would explode I got so hot from running.

The hottest time of the day is around 4-5pm. Early in the am, around 9 or 10am is really nice for me. In the evening, waiting till the sun goes down behind the Spring range is ideal. Gives you enough time for a brisk walk before it gets completely dark.

Heat is not an issue with me. I must say, I've even taken walks in full sun in the middle of the afternoon. So long as my walking path has some dappled sun, shady spots here and there along the way it's something I can tolerate. Especially if there's a slight breeze, it's downright pleasant to me.

For those who don't have experience in the area during June-early Sept it only cools off 2-3 degrees from the high by 7pm and even after dark at 9pm the temps are down only about 4-5 degrees from the highs. The "feel" of the heat might be a little better since you aren't in direct sun, but the air temps are not coming down much. The real relief if there is any starts around 1am and the low temp of the day usually happens right around dawn.

Hydration is very difficult to keep up in summer weather, one really shouldn't be out doing anything more than walking. Anything more strenuous is best kept inside.
