I'm guessing the strip and casinos have significant celebrations and fireworks for the 4th of July.

What about those of us who like to set off fireworks for ourselves? Are there locations nearby in the desert where we can do that?

I've seen people shooting off small rockets along LV Blvd on the way to Primm. Kind of cool! But it is so hot and dry I would be scared to even try to do fireworks myself. The desert plants are dry and it would be too easy to start a fire. Fire in the desert can spread faster than you can imagine! Especially if it's windy.

There will be huge fireworks displays usually on the strip and Fremont Street. The best way to cope with the crowds and traffic is to get there early, park, and go have dinner. Then stay for an hour or so after the fireworks are done. The crowds will be fierce. Or you can park at the top of Boulder Stations parking garage and get the distance view with no hassle at all. Or you can watch on TV!

Just to reinforce the post by Raderman, read THIS if you didn't already. ! Nevada "illegal fireworks" laws - Las Vegas defense lawyers explain

Fireworks are illegal except for kiddie sparklers, etc.

That said, if you drive across town on the evening of the 4th of July you will swear there is a war going on. The entire city is covered in a pall of smoke. People go as far as Montana to smuggle in illegal fireworks, and they must be spending at least $1,000 per family on them. You will not usually pass a street or neighborhood where they are not being set off all over town. I think the cops just give up on trying to enforce the law unless somebody gets hurt, or it causes damage. I've seen roofs catch fire all over town, especially if they are shake shingle. But on every street you will find someone, and usually a lot of someones, setting off illegal fireworks including some pretty good rockets.

You can buy them in Pahrump, but the NHP watches for cars leaving the store and radios ahead. When you cross into Clark County they pull you over and confiscate your fireworks. I'd bet that those cops put on a he** of a fireworks display in their own neighborhood with what they've confiscated.

We go to an illegal fireworks frenzy with friends and relatives every July 4th in NLV. The whole street turns out.

If you buy them from the Piute shop on I-15 at the Valley of Fire exit you have to set them off out back of the store.

Some hotels do their own fireworks, but if I remember right the Strip doesn't do a real organized thing like they do for New Years Eve.

Make sure you tranquilize your dog before dark. One of ours really freaks out at fireworks and thunder storms. In fact we got him from a shelter right after the 4th of July and figured that he panicked from all the fireworks and ran away from his original people.

I can afford to spend a few bucks on fireworks so I can also afford a fine and a lawyer. And for the drive to Pahrump, I'll have a box of donuts in the car in case the cops stop me.

Illegal on BLM land. Don't even allow safe and sane. This is from an earlier year but they do it every year.

After all those firefighters died fighting the AZ wildfires recently I bet law enforcement isn't going to be too lenient with illegal fireworks this year.

Don't count on it. They would need to hire a lot more cops. As Buzz mentioned, this place resembles Baghdad on the 4th.
