I think this is a phenomena. Once you move to Vegas, all your friends and coworkers want to visit!

I am meeting a coworker tonight at Venetian. Then a former coworker at the Red Rock.

If I had moved to XYZ town in XYZ state, no one would want to visit. Haaaa!

You'll get used to it. We keep a guest calendar on the wall in the kitchen to remind us of who is coming when. You'll see it pick up in the Fall/Winter, as you'll find many people are scared of heat.

Plus a lot of major conventions come to LV for my industry. I'll tag along an attending coworker so he can expense my buffet!!

First 2 years definitely, then it dies down. Most of the people were coming to Vegas anyways and meeting them for an evening is easy enough. The hard part is when you get closer friends or family as first time to Vegas visitors and you try to tell them your home is probably not the best place for them to stay. They might think you are being a little rude, but they show up with no car and know you have to work. It is then they realize being stuck out in the suburbs car-less sucks and the bus into place they really want to go is a 2-hour adventure. So the next day you drop them off on the Strip when you go to work, but then they realize not having access to a room for 10 hours is no picnic either. These people either get their fill of Vegas in visit one and don't come back often, or they realize your logic and start getting a room on the Strip.

The first thing you ask anyone that is coming to visit is, "What hotel are you staying in?" Otherwise, too many of them think they are staying with you because since you live in Las Vegas, you live next to the Strip(no matter where you are in the valley) and they can just walk to the Strip from your house.

The way you avoid this is to Just Say No, they can't stay with you, and point them to a cheap room off-strip where they can catch a cab.

We like seeing friends and relatives. If they stay with us fine, if not that's fine too. If we moved to Colorado as we originally planned, we would see a lot less people.

For us, it depends on who is coming. If they're acquaintances, or here for a conference, that's one thing. Our friends from Back East come out here to see us, though, and the Strip is ancillary. We're find filling the house up with a bunch of those kind of friends. But the ones we don't know - yeah, use my comp rooms at the casinos...
