I frequent Las Vega casinos but mostly "local" spots. Cocktail servers have a tough job being on their feet all day and carrying those drink trays. I always tip well when ordering beer or wine.

I wish what everyone here was saying was actually true, as a visitor. Where are you seeing these girls?! I just stayed at the Encore, there were a few good looking cocktail waitresses, but I sure as to heck didn't see any 10s. I didn't see any 9s, either. I may have seen a couple of 8s.

Around the Strip, the best looking girls are tourists, it's not like the movies at all. I've seen more 40+ cocktail waitresses who might have been hot (who knows?!) 20 years ago than I care to count. Now if we're talking about the hostess of a fancy restaurant, yeah, I did see a couple of very good looking girls in those roles for sure. The cocktail waitresses wandering the casino floors? Yikes, no, most of them were 5s or 6s.

Most of the casinos are union. When they open they hire the hottest girls they can for coctail waitresses. But since they're in the union, once they're in, the casinos basically can't get rid of them, so as they get older and lose their looks, they stay on the job (and get the best shifts and areas, because they have seniority.) Caesars, since it's one of the older casinos, was notorious for this. Older women, in skimpy outfits (some of whom, to their credit, have done all they can to stay in shape), delivering drinks to the tables.

There haven't been any new strip casinos in a while, and this is a strange result of that.

Wow, really good explanation, that actually makes PERFECT sense. I was wondering if it was something like that. Why the heck do these companies tolerate union labor for such simple jobs?! I can't believe they tolerate that. I'd kick those unions out and get new employees lol.

Not complicated. Culinary can shut down the strip. And would. And that is why the strip and Las Vegas pays better than say Dallas or Phoenix. And that is one of the reason LV is a successful city. The Sands and others are not union...but they pay well to keep the unions out.

So all and all the balance helps Las Vegas.

Our neighbor was the senior cocktail waitress at a secondary Strip place. And she was still a knock out at 50. Worked hard at it. Only thing that went on her was the feet. Got a papal dispensation to wear flats.

Yikes, that wouldn't be good for me, I like a girl with cute feet! She'd be out :P LOL.

That's true though, I can understand that since the city is built on tourism, obviously if you don't have decent paying jobs then you have virtually no middle class. It still seems like, err, awkward though. I mean you wouldn't have a Hooters with a bunch of 50-year-old women, because nobody really wants to see that. You could be the best 50-year-old woman alive but there are a constant stream of 18-25-year-old girls who are going to be hotter and perkier.
