There should be an incentive for teachers to teach in less desirable schools.

Subs get a bit more pay for Title 1 schools. I'm not sure about the teachers. That said, it's pretty bad when that's not enough incentive to keep someone there.

Districts in Chicago and Detroit offered some pretty good incentive programs in the past for troubled schools. I believe they also used the "troops to teachers" program with success. If Pat Skorkowsky is serious about attracting qualified teachers to the valley, he should work on bringing the "troops to teachers" program to CCSD. Why not? This program is already set up to fast track qualified ex military to the most troubled schools in any district to help turn them around. But not every city participates.

They should. But they should start with ex-military in admin positions, then maybe the kids will fall in line. What I have experienced was reiterated on the great schools reviews. I will check there first before I accept another position. I know it's not the gospel but an insight. I heard, through the grapevine, that they hired more sub aides this year so the availability is left to schools in undesirable areas. The sub teachers I've spoke to said they make close to the same amount with less training and hassles, so more subs stick with aide positions. I'm not sure how valid that statement is, but I can understand it.
