Since we are here from January to May and I want to put up some flower hanging baskets, what are the opinions out there of where to purchase them, or make my own, and when would be the earliest I could hang them without having them brought in at night. I'm thinking geraniums and not sure what else could grow well in outdoor hanging baskets. Thanks.

Maybe I am just a poor gardener but I have had no luck with hanging baskets at all. I think the air is too hot and dry and they get too hot and dry out too quickly. My plants always looked wilted and thirsty even if I watered a lot. I used to grow a lot of geraniums in other places but no luck here.

Maybe they would work in the winter only!

That is exactly what we do with our flower barrels in front of our house. We tried all sorts of different flowers. Watered them just like we were instructed, and they just don't last. The only flower that has survived is lantana in our front rock yard. Now we use silk and change colors according to the season.

They are pretty, too. Bright flowers. They have the look of a succulent but I am not sure if they technically are

Sounds like I may have a challenge as I don't really have a green thumb. I'll try portulaca and maybe a variety of geraniums and mixed flowers this year. If they die, it'll be silk for me next year. Thanks all.
