so me and hubby are heading back to vegas towards the end of summer august to be exact for my birthday . we went a few years back around the same time but hubby was not thinking and we didnt have a really long stay we laneded in vegas around 3am on a friday and flew back on sunday at 1130 at night. this time we will arrive in vegas on a thursday at 8pm and leaving monday at 1145 at night.

we didnt see much last time we were just so awed at the fact that we were in las vegas we kinda just walked around every day hit up the casinos for the players card perks. we did the gondola ride at the Venetian but it was the outside one i would love to do it again in the inside. we hit up the worse buffet ever at the suggestion of the repair man who had to fix yet again our ac at the mgm grand. he suggested we go to the Excalibur and luxor because you got an all day buffet for one price. we did breakfast at Excalibur which was ok but not bad and dinner was at the luxor which was awful. we got to see the famous pawn stars shop and some of the outdoor shows like the water show and the cannon show as well as that shadow thing on venetian or was it the palazzio?

this time since we have more time in vegas we would like to see what the locals think are things we should see we are staying on the strip at the stratosphere its just the two of us. hubby might rent a car for the day so we can explore off the strip we are thinking hoover dam. we defiantly want to to check out old vegas. and we are hitting up the wicked spoon for the buffet. last time we were there we also ate at toby keiths and mad onion, we would like to try some other places that are affordable and that have good food

we also might want to check out a show i love country music so def will be going back to gilleys

any places that have like an all day bingo for one price you get like x amount of bingo cards for like 5-6 hours we are from connecticut we have foxwoods and mohegan and foxwoods has an all day bingo.

anything to see off the strip besides the hoover dam like outlet shopping or a restaurant we should go to

If you're drinkers I would recommend doing the Happy half hour on the Linq. You get unlimited drinks for the duration of your ride. Groupon and Living Social usually have a deal, last one I saw was $69 for two tickets. If you're interested keep an eye out a few months before your trip to make sure the deal will be valid during your trip. If you do go to the Linq you may want to check out Hash House A Go Go for dinner afterwards

I would buy an all day pass on the Deuce. That's a bus that runs the whole strip and downtown. Costs about $7 for 24 hours. You can get off anyplace you want to see. Much cheaper than renting a car and fighting the traffic, pedestrians, and parking. Plus you can drink without worrying about a DUI. It's good way to see the strip and downtown.

If you decide to go to the dam, that's the day to rent a car.

Yeah, why stay at the Strat?

I'd stay mid-strip. If you need budget, try the Flamingo. Decent value with a great location and a good pool (You want a good pool in Vegas in August. The only way you should be out of the AC is if you're neck deep in water.)

I have friends who visit sometimes, and, if they have never been here, they will stay at the Strat because it's the cheapest, and they think it's on the Strip. While, technically, it is, it is a LONG walk through a rough neighborhood to get anywhere. Walk for quite a ways, only to end up at Circus Circus? No thanks. It's half an hour to walk to Encore, and you're just getting onto the Strip at that point.

The Stratosphere in not the best hotel for the Strip, similar priced hotels; Flamingo, Luxor would be better and better location.
Renting a car just for going to the dam in August...skip it. The dam is not the great and in the middle of the hot season, I would pass...unless of course your husband is really in to dams. If you had the money a helicopter tour would be better.

the last time i was in vegas i remember getting on the bus and heading to the pawn stars shop, we got off at the strat because were not sure if the bus went by the pawn shop i remember walking down some areas that i dont think i would want to walk during the night. he booked on orbitz and there is no cancellation fee.

my worrie is we might head out on the strip at night and he might want to head back to the hotel and i might want to stay out ex hang out at gilleys bar i dont want to be going back to the hotel late at night knowing its at the end of the strip and i have to walk through the ghetto treasure island has rooms for 100 right now and that is like in a good part of the strip. the last time we went to vegas we did the bus

I'd recommend the free shuttle from Harrah's to Sams Town for a visit. Got a car stop by Boulder Station or Eastside Cannery. If you have a car do a $7 car drive through the Red Rock park and stop by Red Rock Casino and Resort for an excellent buffet (best sushi bar in any buffet I think) and spend a few hours shopping at the new Summerlin shopping area next to Red Rock Casino. Why I say drive through Red Rock Park instead of doing any hiking there is that it will be VERY hot when you are down here. Bonnie Springs Ranch is also a wonderful place to go and not too far from the Strip. It is a western town attraction (shoot out and a "hangin") with a zoo and train ride.

Wherever you choose to stay, be aware there are resort fees that will be tacked on. And I believe they run per day.

As a local, my favorite attractions are the Conservatory at Bellagio and their water show out front. The Venetian is also a must see. I live by the Summerlin Mall, which was previously suggested, and honestly, none of us think it that great. From the outside, big box stores that are ugly and inside, very pricey merchandise. If you are a shopper, look in the phone book, or ask here, because we have fanstastic clothing consignment shops.

I like to take a ride out to Lake Las Vegas. You can rent paddle boats for that lake, look at the beautiful houses and then go on to see Lake Mead and grab a bite to eat at the marina. There is also a nice riverboat tour on Lake Mead.

For buffets, there is one lower priced and yet nicer at the M. Farther down the Strip south and in Henderson. Was very disappointed with Wicked Spoon the last time we went and definately not worth the price. On Sunday, Bally's has the most fantastic buffet called the Sterling Brunch at $85 p/p and worth it with unlimited large cold water lobster tails, beef filets, baby lamb and just very good things instead of bowls of white head lettuce and green jello salads.

August will be very nice but very hot so make sure you are in a place with a great pool. You should also take the bus and go downtown, just to see what it is all about.
