I used to call the time service (back in the 60s and 70s ... ), and there was no extra charge.

Any GPS knows the time down to a few nanoseconds. In fact the inaccuracies that occur are mainly driven by the software that displays the number. I think I still have a Totally Accurate Clock built 20 years ago that is good to under a microsecond.

At this point highly accurate time is available to pretty much everybodyl.

I doubt NIST is as accurate as the GPS signal.

The most accurate time (that you refer to) is traceable to both GPS and NIST Fort Collins CO. .....

I have a seven-minute window which constitutes "on time" at work. I haven't shot any probes in the direction of Pluto lately. If my watch is accurate to within five minutes, I'm happy.

I think it's odd that we got away from wristwatches this century only have them reappear as accessories for the electronic leash. I refuse to play the electronic leash game. I have co-workers who don't have two nickles to rub together, and $120/month cell phone plans.

Almost $1,500 per year just so they can be vapid and distracted. Thanks, but no thanks.

What's the almost $1,500 per year about? Is that a smart phone annual fee? Myself, I don't have a smart phone. I have a dumb phone that is turned on when I have to make an outgoing call. I don't even text. My battery gets charged twice a year, whether it needs it or not.
