Just FYI, the internet prices you see are for units all coming out of FL. AC manufacturers sell wholesale at various prices regionally. Florida always has the lowest wholesale prices which is why all the internet retailers sell from there. I was told the prices you're seeing online are generally less than what the HVAC company here is paying from their wholesaler.

I paid around $6,000 for a 5 ton roof top HVAC, that was 10 years ago though in the off season (Dec). That was the cheapest price I received, I had bids in the 8k and 10k range as well.

Ohh yes they do. Or at least they claim too. I just spent a day waiting and then two days straightening out a service call from Sears on a dishwasher.
The Sears operator told me they don't repair dishwashers. I believed her.

Who says you need a 5 ton unit? Is that what you have now? You may be able to drop a ton, as everything I've ever encountered here, is oversized.

I'll be honest, I don't like 5 ton units. They are usually a hair less efficient than 4 ton and smaller and they pull quite a bit of electricity.

You can still find some 13 seer packaged units out there fairly cheap. Check out ingramsairandwater website. They have the best prices I have seen.
If you have any other questions, you can send me a DM direct message.
