I’m originally from Boston and moved here to Vegas to get out of those cold New England winters. I absolutely love it here! All the 24hr amenities are perfect for my lifestyle. I can go to clubs whenever I want. No need to worry about restaurants closing or even the grocery stores. However, there is waaay too much temptation and distractions for me to be here long-term. I say I’ll be here for about 3-4 years and will be looking to move 2018/2019. Any family-oriented cities similar to Vegas? What do you suggest?

I’m seriously considering:

San Diego
Oakland
San Antonio
Scottsdale
Pasadena

Oakland? Do you realize what a dangerous place it is?

Oakland is gentrifying as we speak. It will never be paradise, but there are some nice parts.
It should be a lot safer by 2019.

I've got a sister in Scottsdale. She loves it there. They have nice suburbs that remind me of Summerlin.

Oakland... ehhh... no.
Pasadena? Yeah, in the nicer areas.

Money no issue? I'd pick San Diego hands down. My wife and I looked at relocating there early in our careers. Now, we just visit when we can. So beautiful, so much to do, soooooo expensive.

You're better off in San Diego, trust me.

People there are a lot more laid back, less tension, less crime, better weather, better suburbs for raising a family, etc.

You don't sound like a family oriented person, but I would hope you'd consider Albuquerque, New Mexico. San Diego is nice, but too congested, and too far from mountains for me. But if your distracted by gambling, that's a problem you can have anywhere. And Las Vegas has more help groups for that than any other city.

Its just like any other city, know what parts to stay out of. Id suggest Berkeley for OP. Very close by

I didnt choose SD even though I love it there. I get burned out by the cali lifestyle when Im there for extended periods of time. But its an awesome place.

I wouldn't live on the coast of California again. Too cold and damp.

Personally, I could live in the parts of Arizona with similar weather to Las Vegas, as this is the PERFECT climate for me, but I would get bored without the entertainment choices. We see live music 4-5 nights a week, and that simply isn't offered anywhere but here.

But if you want a quiet, relaxing place, I would pick Scottsdale from those on your list. If I HAD to move back to California (at gunpoint), I'd go back to Santa Cruz where I was born and raised.

Or you can work on your willpower and stay here since you love it!
