It doesn't "work."

The worst drivers get a financial slap on the wrist and feel emboldened to continue to drive like complete [knobs]. The result is more accidents and more fatalities.

It works for the bad drivers. It doesn't work for the competent drivers. I hate this system. (And that's a word I don't use lightly.)

Sounds like "works", at least partially. The vast majority of traffic tickets are for b.s., no real "safety" issues, because they are the result of some cop with an insurance industry provided radar/laser gun who sits on the side of the road, in known areas where the environment is ripe for someone to miss/ignore a speed limit sign that makes no real sense. And, cha-ching, the state makes money, and as a silent partner, the insurance industry rakes in the money, all the while hiding behind the fake "it's safety" tagline.

This system doesn't stop the b.s. tickets, or the state from their sham game, but at least it cuts out the insurance industry from the ill gotten gains. That right there ought to be considered "working", unless your someone who happens to love them for some crazy reason. What it doesn't do is get cops out there investigating and preventing real crime, with real victims. (in any city, not just Las Vegas) So, if that were your definition of not "working", I'd be wholeheartedly agreeing with you.

Go stand at any major intersection and count the number of drivers who run red lights. And then tell me how our system works.

Two of the main reasons why Las Vegas drivers are so awful are completely preventable:

1) Make our lights intelligent to maximize bandwidth.

2) Rid ourselves of the "pay your way out of a ticket."

What works is the point system -- bad drivers rack up points far faster than good drivers. It's inevitable. The best states for drivers are the ones where a speeding ticket or running a red means points. And points means higher insurance premiums.

Las Vegas is consequence-free. And it shows.

My wife and I have had 3 tickets in the past 20 years. All three were revenue tickets. My last one is typical. I took the HOA feeder from Summerlin Pkwy east to 95 south. Motorcycle cop at the bottom of the long and steep decline as you get to 95. If you don't brake you will easily exceed the speed limit and I did not brake.

That is a revenue ticket. Two motorcycles cops there for three or four hours and I would suspect they gave out more than $10,000 in tickets.

I've had 0 tickets in 20 years. Revenue tickets still catch the bad drivers. They're going to rack up more tickets, faster, than good drivers.

Good drivers who get popped (which means they aren't as "good" as they think), will see the points drop off soon enough.

So you are lucky or one of the people who drives slow enough that you are a traffic menace. I have done 20 years without a ticket as well...actually 25. So what? Get unlucky and you catch one...blind luck not skill.

Make sure you find a real "greazy" one which shouldn't be too hard. They will make it out to be the fault of the car manufacturer or the city. Shouldn't charge you more than a few years of insurance premiums.

It's $50 or less here in Vegas. As stated in previous posts, it's unique here.

Use the pink building and not even traffic school..at least for me it wasn't but that was 5 years ago for a 92 on a 65. Got nailed on spaghetti bowl onto 95 north near rancho

They changed the rules a few years back, now the "deals" they offer are standardized based on your offense and your prior driving record.

Some courts you can still waive the traffic school portion (it's about safety, right?) for an additional $100 fee to the court.
