The approach to the crosswind runways goes near but not over the Hard Rock. And the HR is hardly high rise compared to the Strip towers. They probably had to run it by the FAA, and were approved for the height the built at.

I know you don't believe me. But look at what's in the areas directly under the approach and departure paths. What's there is no accident, and that land isn't being held for future development. A lot of it is probably owned by the county to prevent development that would interfere with the airport. As long as the airport is where it is, that land will have nothing but low rise structures on it. If that land is going to be free up, the airport has to move.

Look at these views. Note how all the highrise development is well away from the approach/departure paths:

Again how tall do you want skyscrapers South of the Airport?

One of these mid-rise wooden, fire-trap apartment buildings they're allowing to be built all over the country today. Would you really want to rent an apartment on the 5th floor of a wooden structure?

Not me! Not even if it was free rent!

And how dare they call this a luxury apartment building!!!!

Most cities are very strict about tall buildings near airports. I know there are Federal Aviation but Las Vegas seems to be unique in that sense. When I stayed at the Aria looking out the window planes were very close to the building. There have been proposals to move the airport to Primm Valley but that would be a hastle for tourist to travel unless they connected it by highspeed rail.

1,000 new residential units in 5 years, that's a mere 200 a year. We need to catch up with the rest of the cities of the country, building like crazy in their downtown areas, adding 10,000 more units in 5 years.

Molasky proposing a building with a mere 250 units? Could you please double that?

I don't think this will fly, just because the Ogden and Juhl haven't been able to sell out. In fact Juhl is still being marketed as rentals. When I take clients to downtown there biggest complaints are what's going on in the area. They like the properties just not what's around it. I think once downtown gets rid of a lot of the circus environment it will help draw more people down there.

All across the country, where downtown areas have been revitalized, it takes pioneers, just like our earlier pioneers out West, to get things moving.

I "pioneered" in a historic brick 1890's loft building in downtown Minneapolis, in 1989, with 70% of the neighborhood Section 8 type housing, with drunken Indians found sleeping on the building's doorsteps, occasionally. But if no pioneers, nothing is going to get moving!

And you need choices. Not enough choices right now. I'd never consider the Ogden as I'm very sensitive to noise and I don't have to even spend a Saturday night there to know of the loud music drifting up from East Fremont. No thanks! Juhl would be more like it, with some distance!

Just wait and see what the light rail line from the Airport to downtown will do for housing prospects, particularly those closest to a rail stop!

Reading up on this massive transportation project, there's no longer any if, ands, or buts anymore, it's going forward! Like it or not!

I'm highly skeptical of all of this. What there is of downtown Vegas is Casino centric. And what isn't just isn't that attractive to those who want an urban experience.

And if you're waiting for for some sort of rail transit system to get built in Vegas, good luck. Every time this comes up, it gets crushed. The majority of the people like their cars, and don't like paying taxes. No one is going to fund this.
