A good set of long barbecue tongs also could work well for removal if smashing them is not an option. I know a group which goes scorpion hunting in the summer months, and that is what they use to retrieve them.

I bought a handheld black light so I could hunt for them in the house if needed. I decided to test it in my neighborhood and I found a lot on the cinder block walls on the streets in the Mountain's Edge area. They were all Bark Scorpions. If you have a black light they will light up like crazy from far away. I found light on Amazon for around $10. You can just type in UV flashlight to search for one. Most if not all of them I have seen were in the flower bed areas that didn't have a lot of street lights, and were away from the houses. If you want to catch them for removal you can use a pair of reptile feeding tongs to easily grasp them.

They must not be very fast if you can catch them with a pair of tongs. I've read that snakes and lizards will feed on scorpions but I don't think I'd want those critters in my yard, either.

Each year the scorpions move into new areas. We have never had any in our home, but 3 of our neighbors started getting them last year. So I will probably be lucky and get them this year.

There are many factors that can cause them. I always tell people to also keep and eye out when neighbors are redoing their yards. Nursery's are very infested with Scorpions, which means when someone has a delivery they could also be getting unwanted visitors.

Scorpions are pretty fast when provoked... most of the time they will just sit there, so you need to be accurate with your first hammer strike

They are one of the very few creatures that can spring to life from deep hibernation

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but it's always a good idea to spread food grade diamotaceous earth (DE) with an applicator inside and outside the perimeter of the house

The snakes and lizards which eat scorpions are always welcome in our yard. It's the roadrunner who keeps eating the snakes and lizards which annoys us! The only snakes we don't want in our yard are the venomous ones, e.g., rattlesnakes.

I live in Green Valley and have never seen one near here. I saw one dead one in Siena, and 2 live ones in Centennial Hills. Other than that, 3 1/2 years and so far so good.
