Looks like we might be buying a house previously owned by smokers. I'm wanting to get everything painted with something like Killz or Zinsser. I assume pro painters will do so, and possibly charge extra? Anyone have personal experience with this?
Thanks!

As a Landlord I have had to take care of smoking damage to painted walls in the garage several times.

First I use a product from Home Depot and/or Costco called Odo Ban Eucalyptus Odor Eliminator and mop it on the walls, floor and ceiling and inside garage door. This has worked for both cigar and cigarette smoke.

For difficult interior wall smoke damage use bleach mixed in the Kilz and then repaint with a good quality paint. Don't forget the ceiling probably has lots of smoke too. Unfortunately the carpet will hold a lot of smoke and likely would need to be replaced if carpet cleaning won't take it out. Also there are two types of Kilz one is water based and dries quickly the other is oil based and stinks a bit.

I do have a name of a really good painting company who just did two outside full houses for me last week. They did excellent work but they are not the lowest price.

PM me if you would like them to give you a bid.

This is really off the wall, but before painting a room of a heavy smoker I sprayed Scrubbing Bubbles heavily at the top of the wall and watched the nicotine just roll down the wall. Really made it easy and smelled good too!

I don't know about the smoking issue but the only guy I'll let do my painting is Sid at 'Sid' Guliford Painting, LLC. 702-396-5790. He not only did a great job for us, but several people I know have used him too and they all say the same thing.

Oh, I hadn't thought of Scrubbing Bubbles! We were just planning to wipe it all down with ammonia, but maybe that's worth a try. Might be a bit expensive for a whole house though.

Thanks Buzz, I'll look him up!

I used Deco Plus Painting a couple of times and they did a great job. No drips and their crew uses sprays, so there are no streaks or roller lines. 90% of the job is taping off absolutely every square millimeter before spraying and they did it perfectly. Ask for Julian.
