I've been working in Aerospace down in L.A. for about 15 years now. I'm a technician with a variety of skills, including electronics, lasers, and I have a security clearance so my background is good. I have a strong work ethic.

I have a family, and responsibilities, so going back to school to learn something new is not an option for me right now. But I can definitely parlay my skills into doing many different jobs.

With the cost of living rising in L.A., it's no surprise that a cheaper city sounds appealing. I've already looked at Aerospace jobs out there, and they're far and few between, and don't pay much. But like i said, im smart, and I think I could transfer my skill sets into something else with a little training just like any other new job.

I would have to make around $25/hr ($50k/yr) for the appeal to really be there. Is there anything at all that I could really fit into?

Have you thought about checking with the Cirq shows or some of the other shows? They use a lot of electronics.

No, not really.

On the strip? No. In the electrician's union? You'd make 40 an hour.

No, but you don't need one of those crappy Strip jobs that pay nothing! Sounds like you need to work at Nellis. And you already have the clearance too!

JT3 LLC Careers and Employment | Indeed.com

Look very closely at JT3 LLC. I have seen them advertise jobs that seem to right up your alley and in your price range. Google civilian contractors at Nellis AFB and you will find some other companies too. For Vegas, these are some excellent jobs.

Have you looked at Air Force contractors working at Nellis or Groom Lake?

I'm in the same boat as you are, although my industry has a decent job market in Vegas. Well, at least several national firms have small satellite offices in Vegas (thank god they don't have to rely on the Vegas economy to determine pay and benefits). My experience in these forums has resulted in very little quality input with regards to career questions. The majority of people that read these forums are either retired and offer no accurate real-time advice, or they're people of no education and no knowledge of the local career market outside of low paying 'anyone can do them' jobs. People that have their act together and live a financially secure, fruitful life in the Valley are not spending their days on this website. Take whatever advice you can get, but take it with a grain of salt.

In Vegas most people are not who you think they are. It is almost always a mistake to ASSume any group of individuals to be uneducated dolts. The last sentence you wrote is completely true!
