I think that I would move to Ocean City, Maryland. Reasonable COL and no air pollution. 4 season climate, plenty of great restaurants, people like to party, and the beaches are very close.

"Rock bottom" is relative, but tools like this help: Cost of Living Calculator - Cost of Living Comparison Index Tool

Amarillo TX is a lot cheaper than Vegas. Home values in Salisbury MD are very reasonable.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I've enjoyed reading them and considering some of the places mentioned.

I've been coming here since I was 7 years old (a loooong time ago) to visit family, so I knew what I was getting into when I moved here. I transfered for my job and what was supposed to be 2 years turned into 9 so quickly.

Some of the issues I have with living here are the same ones people have in any city with a large population. There are also things I will always love about having lived here. I also know that if you're unhappy at your core, that's not going to change no matter where you go.

Been here since '93. I'm almost certainly moving to Spokane, WA within a couple of years.

I've considered either Dallas for the food and diverse culture or Portland for its techy jobs and artsy scene.

I'm actually thinking of leaving my current location and heading to LV. Any particular reason you want to get out of there after 9 years? It does concern me to see how booming the housing market is out there now. I'm worried another bubble is going to hit and the area will go through another depression.
Blanket statement. There are PLENTY of areas in CA (yes, even southern California) that are affordable. The desert areas and inland empire (yucaipa, redlands, moreno valley etc...) just to name a few. Central and northern California also have lots of affordable areas. Its a HUGE and diverse state.

Anyone who moves away from Las Vegas will be back within a year. That used to be six months, but now it's a year. Anyplace else you go will be so boring you won't be able to stand it. And, there will be humidity.
