lmao. Let's just transport everyone on flying pigs. It's just as likely.

As for the cost, Slotzilla charges $45 for a 30-second ride and the Ling comes in at $37, so I'd expect it to come in around there, hopefully with locals getting the same 'deals' as the Monorail or RTC.
I wouldn't put it in the zipline category of Slotzilla or the Rio Voodoo Zipline.

Slotzilla Zipline
The lower Zipline is $25, the upper Zoomline is $45. Save $5 on either line by flying before 6:00 p.m.

Rio Voodoo Zipline
$28.99 - General Admission - Regular Price

I would put in the moving observation deck category such as the Linq's High Roller, The Paris Eiffel Tower and the Stratosphere. Also we could add the tour Buses for an average.

Stratosphere Observation Deck
Admission is $20 for adults and $5 for hotel guests. Children 4 - 12 are $12.

Eiffel Tower Experience
Daytime Ticket. Gate Prices: Adult $14.25 / Child $10.00
From 7:15 p.m. - close: Admission is $22.00 plus tax for adults, $17.00 for seniors and children.

Linq High Roller
Daytime ride ticket: $25
Nighttime ride ticket: $37
Youth pricing (ages 4-12): $10 daytime ride, $20 nighttime ride. Children 3 and under are always free!
Happy Half Hour - Day: $40, includes ride with open bar
Happy Half Hour - Night: $52, includes ride with open bar

Big Bus Las Vegas Hop on Hop Off Tours
1 Day Tour - Price per Adult $47.00 - Price per Child $28.00 (See additional tour routes and prices for multiple day passes)
Night Time Tour - Price per Adult $41.00 - Price per Child $26.00

But when they're selling it as public transportation then you have to look at the prices on the Deuce, the monorail, the Tram, ect. They'll jack up the prices for it being on the Strip too and that's where I think it gets stupid because of the public transportation portion.

Deuce City Bus
2 hour pass for $6, a 24-hour pass for $8 or 3-day pass for $20, 30-Day Strip & All Access Pass $65.

Monorail
SINGLE RIDE
SINGLE $5
1 DAY PASS UNLIMITED $12
2 DAY PASS UNLIMITED $22
3 DAY PASS UNLIMITED $28
4 DAY PASS UNLIMITED $36
5 DAY PASS UNLIMITED $43
7 DAY PASS UNLIMITED $56

If they're going to make it work like that then yeah give people something to really talk about that people can afford and will utilize frequently including the tourists. World class/novelty public transportation for all that's actually affordable.

Plus with the exception of the Deuce and Monorail you can often find discounted specials on those other rides and observation experiences on Groupon and Living Social.

I'm having trouble picturing how this would integrate with the current infrastructure.

All excellent points, Merry Lee.

Sadly, that includes the comment regarding typical Strip pricing. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I believe it's Steven Dale's Gondola Project proposal from Feb 2010. He talks about the project and has a map in this post. Connecting Branson « The Gondola Project

Using this Monorail and Tram map they want to put the Ariel Gondola right down the middle of the strip at a height that goes over the passenger bridges, traffic lights, other obstacles. Starting from the Welcome to Las Vegas sign all the way to original Downtown Las Vegas and with various branches East and West to other hotel resorts and casinos. They might as well extend it to the airport if possible.

From what I got they want to do something similar to the Portland's Ariel Tramway that services OHSU or NYC's Roosevelt Island Ariel Tramway.

It's been proposed for other cities such as Seattle. Which has a nice map. A Gondola with a Cherry on Top | citytank

And Chicago's 17 story high ariel gondola network. Love Portland's aerial tram? It'll pale compared to Chicago's magical 17-story-high gondola network | OregonLive.com

Portland & NYC have the best pricing because it's actually used as public transportation.

Some State Parks have them too with fair pricing like the Wyler Aerial Tramway.

Otherwise we're getting into scenic tours with majestic mountains or rising above desert landscapes.

The Palm Springs Ariel Tramway

Ober Gatlinburg’s is one of America’s Largest Aerial Tramways

Squaw Valley Ariel Tramway

Jackson Hole

Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway

Alyeska Aerial Tram

Just to name a few. You can see with the rest the prices vary from as low as $8 up to $30 but you get unlimited rides for the day to ski up and down those mountains in most places.

I think it would be a very glamorous addition to features on the Strip and also form another layer of efficient transportation, avoiding the traffic snarls below. But, I'm sure something this nice and sophisticated would cost a pretty penny, as it should, and therefore not be able to exist on fares of $4 p/p for some riders as suggested or unbelievably free, as one poster suggested, for Strip employees. Apparently those posters were under the impression it would be subsidized and not operate for profit as all the other Strip businesses.

NYC does it for $2.75 and Portland does it for $4.55 and free for patients and employees of OHSU and you still get the spectacular view with them, but this is the Las Vegas Strip after all.

I envision the structure and look to be similar to the one in Portland. These great big concrete and metal stations with metal cables and sleek pods gliding across the skyline. Not like the older boxy looking NYC ones. The stations remind me of the Slotzilla ride which is monstrous up close. That'll ruin the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign skyline if behind it.

It's like monorails and moving sidewalks; a kinky, trendy "new" idea that will naturally appeal to the shallow and the impressionable, and who lack the foresight to recognize that such a "unique solution" will, by its basic nature, lead to higher repair bills when wear-and-tear starts to take its toll, possibly so much so that it would be more economical, at some point in the future, to tear the whole thing down and start over with tested technology.

To borrow a line from the film Four Brothers, better to keep the cuckoo in the clock.

Normally I'd be laughing at the idea but with paid parking coming, I think this would work. Are there any articles regarding this specifically for Vegas?

Why do folks seem to think electric means clean.
Most electricity is produced by burning fossil fuels.
