One of the big worrying issues is the increasing use of robots in the casino hotels! After all, Tokyo now has an all-robot hotel. Google it and you'll see!

The casinos would be stupid not to look at serious automation.

Yes, and No. Mr. Ford always had a philosophy of paying his people well enough to buy his product. It worked for him.

Now, we don't have change girls. In the old days, these were charming women who, if you tipped, would point out the machines that were overdue for a hit. The sounds of actual coins hitting the metal got other gamblers excited. Now, I went to a movie and while my friend was in the bathroom, I went to put some spare quarters in a machine. No can do. Their loss. The old casinos wanted every dime you had to spare.

Now we have no change girls, very few cocktail ladies, horrible gaming odds, etc.

Part of Vegas' charm was ALWAYS its people. From the Showgirl to the valet parking kid. It's actually quite sad.

That personable charm and character used to always draw people in. It's something that set us apart from other cities. Now we are careening toward charmless and no one in the top brass wants to acknowledge that. It'll be Rome's downfall.

It's a different business. The strip resorts have decided they don't need and won't do anything particular to cater to the locals crowd. So they could care less if their employees patronize the resorts they work in.

And I was more thinking about back of the house, or at most middle of the house jobs. I've discussed this before, but I'd be interested to see if they could automate room cleaning/turn over. This would be a pretty complex automation problem to solve. But if they could do it, they could probably cut four figures of maids per big property. That's a lot of salary money to save.

^^ Not even the locals crowd. If something happens to the convention business, or the disco-like scene we have now?? We'd better have a fall-back because they took out the reliable old base.

Don't forget, MGMs most profitable property is still Circus Circus

Too many low paying on-call part time jobs run Las Vegas.

Not even close. Scroll down the press release for per property numbers. CC is near the bottom of the pack for profitability.

MGM has been running away from the Bill Bennett model at CC for years now.

One of these days, when you visit, you and I need to have a couple drinks. You are very knowledgeable about this town, but you'd be interested in what I won't post.
