Who said keep it empty? I grew up in San Francisco, there lots of people bought houses in Lake Tahoe. After 30 yrs they were free and clear in two houses. Sold one at hyper inflated prices to use as cash for several lifetimes, lived in the other. I own a house in San Mateo. Appreciated several thousand times, and can pull cash out for decades.

It was if youve been here for a while. I used to deal craps at the Stardust in the day, couple of my co-workers bought acreage way out of town. Commercial land on Jones. They, their children, grandchildren etc need not worry about money.

I have rentals here in Vegas and I hesitate to suggest it as an investment. The best return you can get when all costs are factored in is around 6% today. Now you're saying you want to keep the property empty? Sounds like a waste of money to me.

Your "co-worker" is lucky. He is dialed in to information that most other people and realtors are not privy to.

What are you talking about. Las Vegas was every bit as profitable as SF. You just got to the party late. But hang in, or is that unlikely.

There are people for hire who do indeed "look in on things." You can use technology as well. It isn't a big deal.

Agree, it's not a big deal. There are a few things to keep in mind. Turn off the water to your house, that'll save a LOT of hassle. Drip irrigation is a major pain. If you can turn that off that would help as well, I got rid of mine and gradually going to upscale yard decorations (backyard).

If you have any landscaping, turning off your drip irrigation would spell death to any plants.

I like your idea of "upscale yard decorations". Where do you get them? I saw a place that had metal cactus like you see along the roads here but can't remember where I saw it. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
