Prop Mgr just called to say our rent will be reduced $500 until further notice
(SFR, $1,750/month down to $1,250).

Surprised and grateful. Thanked him profusely and asked that he thank the owner for us.

A very nice thing to do.

There will be a government ban on evictions soon, they will need to curb the social unrest that's coming.

And the opposite happened with landlords friends of mine - 6 of their apts were behind already!!
So the landlords stopped paying their utilities and cable. I don't know how many months behind ---it is not just one.
It takes them a long time before they even think of eviction ---they are suckers for a sad story.

So congrats to you !! !! !!

Thank you!

It did sound like he was worried about people just breaking the lease and leaving, mentioned it was a retention measure. I don't know what he was hearing from the other tenants. He has mentioned that he never worries about us, rent's there like clockwork.

Default East side

89121
4 bedrooms, big room along back of house, LR, FR - most of it unused. The rent is low because it's not in the best of shape (old, dirt backyard, single pane windows = high elec bill, kitchen a vision in avocado and worn out formica.) Beautiful area, though.

It was empty for months after a slapdash renovation. We turned it down, then went back two weeks later because we ran out of time.

This is great news to hear but i would imagine we will see many more stories like yours come along. With the Valley economy currently in such an uncertain state and the national economy also being tested this isn't a time landlords want to be booting otherwise good tennants.

I'm sure there will be more unfortunate stories like Miss Hepburns as well but for the most part I think people's short term concerns about rent/bills ect will be negotiated without much hassle. People who weren't way underwater heading into this are very likely to come out okay (assuming they don't incur a boatload of medical bills in the meantime).
