Morbid, I know, but I think my family is being taken advantage of.

Obviously, there has been a death. The first place we talked to (insert well known funeral home here) wants $9,000 for the service and casket only. And that was for their lowest end casket.

I've been through this before and know how hard it is to make these decisions when were greiving. If someone has recent experience or some other knowledge of the direction we should be looking, I'd appreciate it.

Cremation is not an option.

TIA

Well I have had to arrange 4 funerals and yes when people are most vulnerable that’s when they get taken advantage of. There are laws that require funeral homes to take caskets from outside vendors. Bar none the best place to get a casket at the best price as well as the best quality is Costco of all places I have purchased three there. Caskets are grade by the thickness aka gauge of steel. I tried to get the funeral home to match Costco’s price and they said they could not come close to matching the quality or gauge of steel. Also for a small fee before death join the People’s Memorial this gives you significant savings from various funeral homes. I also had to fly my father in laws remains from Seattle to San Francisco via Alaska Airlines to Golden Gate National Cemetery. I called several legitimate funeral homes and negotiated much better prices. You go to Costco with the appropriate paperwork and fill out a form and they send casket to funeral home.
Here are some faq’s for Costco caskets.

Sending our deepest condolences as well. We had to go to a family's Covid funeral this summer in Ely. It was surreal. I love how they light up the headstones now with solar lights that light up at night. It was right after Memorial Day so everything was cleaned up and decorated.
