My roommate has been out here for around 7 months, and has yet to come across a decent paying (well one close to what he's been getting paid in Florida) graphics job. He's been to so many interviews out here, only to end up looking to get hired for $10 or less and hour, which doesn't make sense with the experience he's had.
He has gone to college and graduated w/ a degree for it and has been in the field for the past 10 years. He knows just about all there is to it, he's got an extensive portfolio, recommendations, and an excellent work history, he's practically run the shops/offices he's worked for in the past by himself.
He's really good at what he does, and again - he's worked with a lot of programs in the feild - Quark Xpress Passport, Photoshop (Adobe and 7.0), InDesign, etc ...
If ANYONE knows anywhere he could possibly look into, that pays more then just $10 an hour, maybe knows someone he could talk to, you would be so helpful. He is a benefit to any employer, he puts everything he's got in his work and he's a hard and dependable worker.
I'm just here trying to help a friend out , I hope I can get the same in return by some of you all who may have any advice or leads for me.
Thanks again.

When I first moved to Vegas about 5 years ago, I had just graduated with a bachelors in Graphic Design and Illustration. I went on a bunch of interviews but didn't have any luck because everyone wanted 5+ years experience. It's a tough industry to break into. I'm surprised your friend is having trouble with all his experience. I remember one job I went to for an interview, there were literally 20 other applicants there at the same time. It really seems you have to know someone to get a good design job. Has your friend tried looking at jobs posted on Craigslist. There is a ton of jobs posted on there. Good luck.

I've been looking for kinda the same thing...I'm a photographer and videographer, and I also have education in Marketing/Advertising. I've been working in video for 7 years, photography for 3. I want to bring marketing and design into the mix and haven't had any luck with jobs I've applied to yet. Its been 2 weeks and I haven't hard back from any of the 35 or so places I've applied to. Very discouraging...I'll find something evenutally though, I hope.

P.S. I wonder if those Craigslist ads are real sometimes......anyone ever had success on there?
