It's practically impossible to get an online appointment for a license, other than very early in the morning for the 90th day out. (Today, on 12-January, I got an appointment for 12-April before they evaporated.)

Does DMV still permit applicants to line up outside the building on a stand-by basis for spots to open up? I thought they did, but I saw this pop-up and wonder if it means ONLY new residents and ONLY on Saturday:

I'd really like to get this done in March, if possible.

You do have to book your appt before 10 a.m to even get an appt. I got one for April 13. I am already expired(not me, the DL) and have been trying to get in there to get it renewed since late last year. For some reason they won't let me renew online. All you have to do is either wait with a confirmation of your upcoming appt, or go in person and stand in line all day or call them and wait until they put a live person on the phone and let them try to help you get in earlier. I think things should only get worse as time goes on.

So, that *is* an option? Not just for "new residents" and not just on Saturday? I just want to make sure I understand my options.

Ya know, before Covid, life was easier at the dmv. Did you sign up for the "mydmv?" It should help a little in finding out more information. Although it is not helping me too much. They do contradict themselves too much in their site. It will say, "click here" to contact them. And instead of some way to contact them, it gives you another page. And each time you click a link, it takes you to another page where you do not ever get anywhere. Bad page design.

I would say, call and wait to speak to a human.
