I'm graduating from high school in June and I'm planning to move out this summer, I have one roommate and we are planning to move into a 2 bedroom apt. not a crappy cockroach place downtown or anything, but we have no super high expectations. I am just kinda clueless about the living expenses, my parents don't remember what it costs to live in an apartment and I am really busy to go around looking right now and I'm just the kind of person who needs to know the statistics of things. How much do you think these things cost for us on average every month...

-rent
-gas bill
-electricity bill
-apartment liver's insurance
-cable

also I'm about to get a car in the next few months with my own money and I'm trying to get something cute, cheap, and safe. I don't know whether I want to go to a dealership and put a downpayment or buy a car from an owner for like 2,500-3,000 bucks. I'm taking my grandpa with me but I was wondering if you had any suggestions of good cars or mini SUV's where insurance wont be so high either. PLEASE and THANK YOU!!!!!

My gas bill hovers around $30 a month in the winter, and just $20 a month or under the rest of the season. And i take really long showers. So if one is frugal, they can save money.
My electric hovers around $100 a month and does spike in july and august to about $160. I also conserve and keep it warmer than cooler.
I also have a 2 story townhome with 1588 sf. And ceiling fans in every room.

before you get the car, you need to find out how much insurance and registration is going to cost.... at 18 if the car is in your name, you are going to pay ALOT. especially if it is newer or a sporty car

if you're going to spend that much on a car, buy a used honda.

I'm actually looking for 2 bedroom apartments in June as well, so I've been doing crazy amounts of research on this recently.

We're college grads so we're looking for something a little upscale (nice cabinets, fireplace, pool/workout room in community, etc.) and we're finding things right at $1000/mo for a 2 bedroom. We're looking in the 1000-1200 sq. foot range. Little less nice for $950, little nicer for $1050. Of course I can't speak from experience, but I've talked to three different complexes owned by Camden (camdenliving.com) and they've been immensely helpful. I think we're going with Camden Canyon, fyi. Oasis Bay looks a little dated on the inside, and Camden Pointe is a pretty bad neighborhood, so those are two we nixed.

Also, with your new car, be sure to get a boot/anti-theft system, etc. Car theft is apparently really common in vegas. Even if you live somewhere nice you might work/visit places that aren't.

In response to the insurance costs post, definitely pay attention to the year of your car. I got my car when I was 19, and so was getting quotes on a lot of different things. Insuring a 2000 (it was 2005 at the time) Chevy Cavalier cost more than three times what insuring a 1995 Mustang GT cost. So age of the car in this situation heavily outweighed engine size as far as reasonable insurance.

$3000 is not going to buy you a decent honda.
