The California Coastal Commission's listed several reasons, including:

1) Their overriding objective is to protect the coast from development.
2) The applicant is a for-profit company, and the Commission says no for-profit company can be involved because they might, you know, make a profit.
3) They will decline all future desalination applications, period.
The California Coastal Commission is ridiculous. Wish the governor would/could override their decision.

Nothing like self-inflicted problems. And they won't use the method quoted below because, presumably, of the "tainted" nature of the inventor country:

"Desalination used to be an expensive energy hog, but the kind of advanced technologies being employed at Sorek have been a game changer. Water produced by desalination costs just a third of what it did in the 1990s. Sorek can produce a thousand liters of drinking water for 58 cents. Israeli households pay about US$30 a month for their water — similar to households in most U.S. cities, and far less than Las Vegas (US$47) or Los Angeles (US$58)."

Unless something changes, Lake Mead will hit dead pool. Somewhat strangely, this won't effect Vegas that has water draws below the dead pool level. But CA will have to make up that water.

As far as the CA Coastal Commission, I'm surprised the legislature doesn't see the writing on the wall, and remove the CC's authority to stop these projects. But the CA government has been unremittingly idiotic in a lot of ways, so why should this be different.

It'll be about 60 degrees and raining when you get there. Woo-hoo!

The only way to re-fill Lake Mead is to cut AZ and CA water supply so the lake does not drop further. Once the lake is stabilized, gradual further reductions can be made so the reservoir re-fills.

Better for those States than going to dead pool.

The CA legislature responds to campaign contributions, just as every elected body does.

Thank you. TBH water was a consideration. We doubt that the states involved can make intelligent decisions regarding it, and the Feds will not make any of them happy if they have to make those decisions for them.

Medical and health were the most important though. I acquired serious allergies there and in the eight years we lived there I had nine doctors and three PAs. I have some serious health problems that require a consistent healthcare base.

We are now in Williamsburg after six days of driving. One of them over nine hours. We are waiting for our house to be finished. Weather is certainly different!

We miss all the friends we made there. In person and online.
