I am a single woman who is considering relocating to las vegas, when i look on craigslist for apts i am very confused as where to look for a nice place to live .I will have to rely on public transportation to get around,so ineed to be in an area that has easy access to public transportation.I have been offered a job at a casino on the strip but need to know how easy it is to get around.I have been to vegas many times but only as a visitor so i really do not know street names.Thank you for any help.

Which casino are you planning to work at? If, for example, you were hired at the Flamingo, you could get a place on W. Flamingo in a safe area about 5 miles west of the strip and you would only have to take one bus to and from work. This is true with just about any strip property. Just figure out the street that your hotel is on, go west 3-5 miles, to at least Rainbow and rent an apartment or condo on that same busline. Here is the site for the CAT system with bus routes and schedules.

You can live closer to the strip, but being a single lady, I'd suggest west of Rainbow.

Although the suggestion of living west of Rainbow may be a good one the further north you go, the area around Tropicana and Jones or Flamingo and Jones is pretty nice and not particularly expensive, depending on who you ask.

You could use this Mapquest site to get directions and mileage to your job from whichever apartments you are interested in,

MapQuest - Driving Directions - Map Directions

then check this site provided by olecapt to see if it's one of the safer areas,

Crime in Las Vegas

then use the CAT bus site to see if there is transportation to the job.

You need to give more information to get a better answer to your question, like where are you going to be working?

I agree. I also like the area of Sahara/Decatur. But living further west and taking one bus beats having to transfer twice a day.

Hi! I love where I am and just started taking the bus. $40 bucks a month will get you unlimited rides. The website for the bus will let you put in your beginning and ending addresses and give you choices of times/stops, etc.

I live right at a bus stop, but you will find many stops so it's difficult to not live near one.

www dot eagletraceapartments dot com is where I live. pools/hottubs, fitness facilites, raquetball courts, volleyball, basketball, tennis, parks...I love it here!

One bus will get you all the way down to the other end of Vegas... going north or west. Then one more to your destination on the strip. I love it! Feels like I'm just getting a ride from a coworker or something.

I'm gonna be brave and throw it out there.... but if you fall in love with this place and want to live here, I know someone who wants to live here with a roommate. So your rent and utilites could be cut in half. Imagine paying 400 bucks a month for rent! Woohoo!

so if you are interested, let's chat sometime

The SW part of the valley has some nice apartments near the strip.
Look near area of Tropicana /Decatur all the way to Tropicana/Rainbow.
Also, as mentioned W. Flamingo is similar.
Some are better than others so pick and choose.
You can ride a bus or call a cab if you need to.
Its a great location close to everything and pretty safe
