it is for locals only and you need the Nevada id... the DMV isn't that bad... go EARLY!!! We saw Danny Gans for free a few weeks ago.. ($100 ticket normally) and he was great.

have all of your paperwork and identification ready.. Birth Certificate (original), Social Security Card (not laminated), Old Drivers License, and Marriage Certificate (since your name is not the same on the birth certificate). Also you need proof of residency in Nevada..(tax docs work)

I wish you the best of luck too, there is something out there for you.
That stinks doesn't it! I don't know why a newcomer should have a hard time. Try the hotel industry and the school system. They need teachers, teacher assistants, administrative types and more. Start doing your application online and on the phone. They tend to act like the Wizard of Oz (hide behind the curtains) which is why they always need teachers. People with college degrees don't all want to put up with that kind of crap. I went to the Clark County School System Building and they have a security guard in the lobby who directs you to a desk with business cards and a computer monitor. You're supposed to apply online there using the website given on the cards. There are also some phone numbers on it. I called one of them listed as for teacher interviews and the number given is not correct for that division. See what I mean? If you can cut through their Bull you can get a job. Its a game. Don't let them win. As for the hotel industry, you know they always need people.
My mom is unskilled and had no high school education when she went to work for Hilton Hotels after my dad retired. She worked at New York's Waldorf-Astoria for 35 years. She loved it. How many hotels would you say are in Vegas? Make a target list and act like you'll be killed if you don't land a job in 30 days. Win the game. I'm praying for you too!

The reason that it's hard for newcomers is that so many of them don't stay beyond a few weeks.... the last 3 we've hired all went home within 6 weeks.....costs a lot of money to train someone for such a short time.

I can see where everyone is coming from in their replies but you have to take into consideration that basically every job I had in PA, which is where I'm from, doesn't amount to a whole lot out here. So they look at my resume and go "So I see you have been serving for a while. We would like to see some current office work before we hire you." To become a Restaurant Manager you need 2+ years in a WELL KNOWN NATIONAL chain. So the whole year I was an asst manager in PA doesn't matter because even though it was high volume, it was family owned. And I'm not hiding anything. I don't even know how someone came to that conclusion from what I wrote. I was/am frustrated with the job market. I have gone on a number of interviews but I'm tired of just working to pay the bills. I want to settle in with a company I can grow with and do something I enjoy. I do apply to Craigslist but do you understand that for every job posting at least 500 people apply.
Alan you obviously have a background in management in the service industry and I know I will get a thousand angry posts for saying this but you also a man. It is much harder for women in my opinion. I'm not looking for pity or anything just stating what I have seen firsthand.
