Hi There,

I've been living in Boston for about 11 yrs. now. Before I came to Boston in 98' I was living in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegowina where I was born. Bosnia is in Eastern Europe and Boston is northeast of US. While I do enjoy my life in Boston I would like to move to Vegas for number of reasons.

I was in Vegas only once. Stayed at the Luxor for 3 days and that was it. Those 3 days convinced me that living on the East Coast is absolutely crazy.

I have a lot of reasons to move to Vegas but my #1 reason is the weather.
I love that dry, desert heat with low humidity. Here in Boston we already need heat. Days in October are chilly and cold and nights get even worse. Summer time we get 2 months of decent summer and even those 2 months can be bad with rain and extreme humidity. I won't even talk about Mosquitoes.

I don't have a plan when or where I would move. I'm financially not ready to leave yet but I'm working on that right now.

My question would be - due to our economy being really bad right now how hard is to get a job ??

My education background isn't that great, just a HS diploma - but I would be willing to continue school. I'm only 24 yrs. old.

All help would be highly appreciated.

you came to vegas for 3 days and that made your decision? try coming out for a few month's first... without a heavy bankroll ($8-$10k), i think you will have a problem...i would work somewhere in boston that can transfer you, unless you want to work at mcdonalds or walmart

Well Bunny, you wouldn't be the first and definately not the last person to pick up and move here, that's for sure.

Take a bit more time to research the place, you need to venture off the Strip and away from the tourist areas to get the feel of the place...

Rent a car, drive in all directions away from the tourist corridors and see if you like what you see.

Las Vegas is the not the LEAST expensive place to live, but from what I hear from my Boston friends...it IS cheaper and far less congested, but definately not as cultural rich as Boston is.

Take a couple of trips here first before uprooting yourself, especially next July and August when the desert heat is upon us at it's full strength. The streets here are not paved with gold, but doing your research, determination and good planning on your part is the key to being successful here.

Good luck to you, I wish you much success!

I agree with MomMom, your limited time on the strip doesnt give you enough perspective.

If you have the means, I would suggest try renting a furnished apartment here for a couple of months, and get a true feel of the landscape. During that time you can find temporary work, and socialize. Doing it this way gives you an exit back to Boston if you find you do not like it.

BTW, Go Sox

Well, just to play devils advocate, I moved here after a 5 day visit (3 days strip, 2 days off) and I am very happy. I knew what I was getting into though because I researched the heck out of it from almost every angle. Rent prices, Different areas, Utility costs, Jobs Requirements, Crime, Bugs (lol), etc.. Came prepared with an apartment picked out and savings to last 6 months. (Very Important!!!!) Got a job with the first two months, although I have almost 10 years experience, and I will admit that getting a job was the toughest thing about the whole move. The uncertainty was stressful because this is a very competitive town. MomMom's advice was right on, If you have your feet on the ground and have a plan, you can make it work. Best of luck to you

Oh, and I do strongly recommend physically coming here to pick out your apartment (if renting) because places and areas are not as they seem on the internet. I am so glad I did that because all the places I had picked out online were not as nice as they looked.

Thank you very much guys.

And yes I've been in Vegas last July - the end of July and I do remember the heat... I am a bodybuilder and I just love that warm desert heat wave. In Boston you have to pay to tan not in Vegas!
