Tiger,

The NCLEX is a national exam. Once you pass, you eligible for an RN license in all 50 states.You only take the exam "once" for your RN credential.If you want to move to another state, all you have to do is apply for another license based on reciprocity from the state that you're currently licensed in.

The nice thing about nursing is that there is a compact nursing license,which means that you can be licensed in 23 states simultaneously.Nevada is not a compact state (individual license), but you can apply for a compact license any time you want -- if you like to travel or move.The compact license is great for travel nurses who work in several states.Travel nurses can earn up to $50 per hour -- plus fully paid housing or housing stipends up to $2000 monthly, and tax incentives.

I'm not a nurse, but I am a fellow healthcare practitioner that owns a healthcare recruiting business that places nurses.My wife is (RN) though.With my business I don't negotiate salary. That's why I am trying to find out what the hourly rates are in Vegas -- for my wife.

[quote=Kwame Y;6849564]Deefromlv and Terracottapie,

. Do any hospitals give you medical benefits "effective on hire date"? Any weekend diffs?
]

I got fully paid healthcare coverage for myself and dh on day 30. Their is a $1.50/hr weekend diff. I would do a bit of travel nursing assignments at several different hospitals out here if I were your wife. There are people that love my hospital but others who hate it. I'm not fond of St Rose but others love it. It's all a matter of preference. And when you do go to relocate have her contact Unit Managers directly, no HR. HR is horrible out here at all facilities and don't call you back. My UM created a position for me.

kwame y,
My health insurance was effective at 30 days of employment. The 10k is broken up over 3 years. 2k at 90 days, 2k at 1 year, 2 years and 4k at 3 years. Hope this helps!

Nurses who work at hospitals that are covered by a SEIU contract have a set scale. SEIU may provide you with it. The three St Rose's, Valley and Desert Springs, UMC, Southern Hills and Sunrise are all SEIU. Most charge nurses at these facilities are about 4 % above scale. The approximate range are a start at about $24 /hr for a new grad to $39 /hr for a 20 year RN. 7pm to 7 am get a night shift differential and critical care get differentials. There are also weekend diffs. No hospital pays for specialty certification except where it is required such as EMS RN's.

Any ideas?

Thank you
I just hired into an NICU position at Sunrise, pay is reasonably good, depends on experience level
years working as an RN hi end is 48+ an hour

once you passed NLCEX you don't need to retake it again even if you are moving out of state.. you just need to endorse your license...

if you applied as PRN then you get paid more.

if the company you applied cares about their employees then they will pay you what you deserve.. well, the one I'm in is NOT so I'm out..
