Hi were moving back to Vegas this summer both me and my husband lived there for many years but at the time did'nt have school aged kids so we never looked much into schools. We now have a 1st grader and im going to put him in a private school does anyone have any suggestions on schools? Were christian but dont nessasarily want to just go with christian schools were open to others. Were not sure of the area were moving to just yet but I dont mind traveling and if I find the right school it could give me an area to look into. Also any reviews of the schools would be great thanks!!

There are a few reasons to put the kid into private school...

The kid is brilliant and you don't want his intellect stiffled.

The kid is a candidate for reform school and you need to get him straightened out..

You live in a bad area and don't what to send the kid to the local school.

You are strongly religious and don't wnat the child exposed to evil.

You really want to home school but have to work or can't cut the program.

It would sound neat discussing education with your friends.

So why do you want a private school?

Is this really necessary in order to answer the question?

Given the way in which the question was asked...yes.

There are 20 or so "private" schools in the Valley. They cover a huge range in costs and capabilities. Only a couple would be superior to the better public schools. And those are generally very expensive.

I've heard many good things about LVDS and Alexander Dawson. Look into those.

Aside from that, I agree with Olecapt - the lesser-known privates aren't any better (and are perhaps even weaker) than the good publics.

The reason I put my son into private schools is because they generaly have smaller classes there scores are normally higher theres less crime and to be honest in alot of places the teachers are better educated and actually enjoy there jobs. My son is sensitive hes shy and reserved and if I was able to I would home school him but im not able to. Also price is really no matter if theres a school thats good I dont mind paying a few hundred extra each month. Thank you radraja for the schools I'll start with them.

Mostly untrue. In general private school teachers are less qualified than public school teachers. If you go to the better private schools you may find smaller clasess but don't bet on it. And note the tarriff is not a couple of hundred it is a grand.

The strongest of the private schools is the Meadows. The principle charge against the Meadows is that they are too harsh and demanding and not well suited toward sensitive children. So you really want to spend a grand a month so your "sensitive" child can be bulllied? If he or she survives they may well be the best they can be...but they have to survive first.

The religious schools are another major source of "private" schools. They are well known for leaning hard on the children and even the children's parents. That is one of the reasons they often do well.

There are feel good schools though they can be reasonably expensive. They take great care of "sensitive" children and the "sensitive" parents often following behind the kid. They often do not educate nearly as well as the good public schools.

So name your poison. But unless you have a kid with really demanding intelligence or you are well enough off that 12 or 15 graqnd a year is not a problem...I would suggest a good address with a good public school.

I ment a couple hundred extra my sons already in a private school so I know what the going rate is. I dont want to discuss my finances online but I think a good education is worth the few grand a month thats my opinion it may not be yours. Also most private schools wont hire a teacher unless they have at least a bachelors degree. I went to private schools so did the rest of my family I know how they work im not new to this. If you look on the private school rating websites the avg class size for public schools is well over 20 but for private its 15 and under for elementary. All I asked was wich schools are good in Las Vegas not should I pick a private over public. I wont do the meadows because I've heard terrible things about it and they wont settle for average its all about test scores instead of the kid. I did a bit of research on Alexander Dawson it seems like a good place but I'd like to get a few schools before I come there at the end of the month to look at them. Right now im looking at a place in the seven hills anthem area is there any good schools in that area?

There's a Challenger School in Silverado Ranch, which would be close by: Challenger School
