Start-up employees. It is common to let half of them go once the place is running smoothly and things calm down. If the economy refuses to cooperate, they may release up to 75% of startup employees.

I'm not sure where that figure comes from. 75%? Don't think so. Not in any case.

Yes, some of the direct jobs might get cut, BUT from what we will pick up in associated businesses, were looking at 20,000+ jobs that will be filled in order to service city center.

This is all considering that the place even opens with the economy and all... j/k!

Did I read that right? The hiring process takes 9 months?

You mean you can get pregnant this month and start work as a cocktail waitress in Sep.?

According to my sister, who's a room reservationist for MGM Mirage, half of those jobs are going to their current employees, and those who were recently laid off.

I think the % of over hiring is much less than 50. I think it's usually more like 10% or maybe 20%, dyn. The problem they'll have is sorting through the apps. I'm betting they get around 200,000 or more in this economy. It's mostly, if not all, computerized apps nowadays though so they probably have a program that kicks out the bad ones. I think it was Bellagio that had over 100,000 apps when they opened.

Well, I have a family member that worked for Sun Micro Systems in Santa Clara, CA and was laid off recently. Pretty good resume in the IT field and not one phone call from many filled out applications. She's now currently working at Target for the Christmas season. Companies are just not hiring, but if City Center is hiring that is good news even if the jobs pay minimal. Something is better than nothing.

actually, I can only go by what seems to be tradition with Steve Wynn....when we hired in Atlantic city it was it was 100% overhire then shave down for 90 days .... when he built here with Treasure Island [according to ny 2nd xwife whatzername] they over hired by 50% then shaved down to 100% staff at 90 days.... I can only assume that the Mother Goose Motel will do much the same.

A new Wal-Mart (the largest in NY state) had opened in my hometown. After 9 months, the workforce reduced to 50% of what they hired...phased in over 3-month periods.
