Hello,

I wanted to get some information on the teaching job market in Nevada. My husband and I are considering moving out West and Nevada was one of the places we are looking at. We do have some extended family on my side who live in Henderson.

About me: I am a special education teacher with 3 years experience and my Masters in Education.

Husband: Paralegal

Married with two children.

What are prospects for teaching jobs? Also, quality of living? Cost of housing, etc?

Thanks!

Clark County School District isn't hiring until the fall of 2010 due to budget issues.

If you want to teach in Nevada, get your license now. They rarely honor certificates from other states, and that damn lady in the Las Vegas gets her jollies from torturing out of state teachers. I did have a special ed teacher from our district move to Las Vegas and she wasn't picked up. And the budget issues for CCSD are looking gloomier. I talk with friends on a regular basis and they're still looking for ways to tighten the budget belt.

On the upside, if you get in the retirement benefits are fabulous and you're vested after five years.

Check out teacher net, go to chatboards and then the drop down list of states. I checked out teaching in NV before I moved here but the conditions just weren't right for me. Best of luck, DM me if you have any specific questions or for my impressions from registering my daughter in 2 different schools, I am always happy to help a teacher.
