Both Fountains at Smoke Ranch as well as the Sunrise Meadows at the Lakes are ran by the same company then? Both are on that website?

Both complexes have sex offenders. I would expect one or more in any complex in this price range.
In our quiet little gated community of upscale homes, we've had two burgleries. One was right next door to me and I would have heard them kicking the side door down had I been home at 9:00 in the morning; one occured while the owner was working out front and the burgler went in the back from the street behind. One former neighbor is in Federal prison, another house was raided for drugs, and I suspect there was a drug dealer next door to me. And these are some of the nicest houses in town. Like you said before, crime is everywhere, even in very small towns where everyone knows everyone else. I've just become stuck up in my old age and don't have the tolerence for low lifes that I once had. I prefer my crooks to be high brows.

Yeah we all said the neighborhood would go to hell when your developer built those homes on the little bitty lots...attracts the riff raff. You know by the way that your tract was the one that set the standard for the buffer zone for the RNP. Your development set the standard all the way west on Alexander to Lone Mountain. You got your smaller lots and we go you guys as buffer from the 6 to the acre across Alexander.

Actually I don't think the crime was bad in either of the apartment units. Just the Lakes was detectibly worse. I was more responding to the reviews...they were pretty awful on both. Some bad reviews is par. Both of these were exceptionally bad in my opinion.

lol keep looking? It is hard to do a search of an area from all the way across the country since you cant look at it yourself.

I keep telling friends and family that I will sign a 9 month lease and if worse comes to worse then I will have 9 months to look for a new place to live. Just no sense in paying 1000 for a one bedroom. It kills me that is Kentucky I can get a nice one bedroom for 550 a month and only a decent (but maybe not as some have said) for maybe 780.

I can handle drugs being done, and I can handle a burglery where stuff is taken (as I do not have super nice things) when I am not home. I can not handle gunshots and blood and dead bodies and stalkers. My boyfriend says not worry because he bought a "glock" but dont wanna have it tucked away some place "safe" if when you need to get it quicky have to then remember the safe spot or if a burgler finds the safe spot and then has it to their advantage.

I was going to try and find a flight to Las Vegas but all the flights are 300 or so, and it would just be for a couple of days, I cant justify spending 300 for two days. From what is sounds like I will need to save my money for when I arrive to Las Vegas.

Hmmmmph, just stuck now. You know that feeling when you think you have everything figured out, you have a plan ready and it is a sure fire one at that, but then you come to a speed bump, but after you get over that one, you see a mile of more speed bumps, and you are trying to decide whether it is worth the hassle to see the end of them? That is the point I am at. It cant be that bad right?

P.S. Looking at other posts, Buzz, you said in the post "Once again wondering more about Las Vegas" that somewhere in the general area of 89121 zip code is all right. There was a two bedroom actually I saw that was in that zip code called "Village at Karen" on AliciaLynn Way, lol along with other streets in that area such as KrissyLouise, AmberLeigh, TracyLynn...sounds like the names of a large Kentucky family (or porno stars) and I didnt give much more thought to the place being that it was a 2 bedroom for only 695, they had to be something wrong with it...right? Good ol' apartmentratings.com think the place is better than both Fountains at Smoke Ranch and Sunrise Meadows though! 3 good reviews, three bad reviews, hmm...

ALSO! There was the comment about Condo's near The Lakes. I am young, forgive me for sounding ignorant, but a condo is like ... a mini house no? You have to be approved for it, etc? Are they sometimes for rent or?

A condo is like an apt, some are former apts. In fact, most are former apts in the valley.

that apt. complex is an ok area, i like how it is convenient to things on Nellis, which has a nice Albertsons and VONS at the corner, and it is also convenient to the Boulevard Mall...I've been in that area many times, the Albertsons is nice and the VONS center seems to be good too

Yes condos are just apartments that you own instead of rent.

I think that you are obsessing over nothing and it is probably our fault for scaring you. You are not moving to Baghdad or Beirut. You're moving to one of the nicest cities in the world. Leave the glock in the holster and stop worrying about tripping over dead bodies. I've been here for 43 years and have seen very few dead people lying about. In my opinion you'd be happy with your choice in The Lakes since the area is one of the prettiest in Las Vegas and you'd be close to work. It is also very easy access to all parts of Las Vegas. It is walking distance to a nice shopping center where there is a movie theater, nice affordable restaurants, and shops. Take it for however long you have to, unless you can get it on a month to month basis. After you are here a short time you'll get to know the areas you like best and you can move if you want to. I'm betting you won't want to unless you decide to buy. Buying is easy and smart by the way and there is always a way to buy a house if you really want one.

Just come on out and stop worrying. It will be an adventure and a lot of fun. Nobody will bother you and you'll feel right at home.

Buzz is right on. The apartments in the Lakes is just fine.

Watch for a PM. I will send you a couple of condos you can look at in the area if you like. The Canyon Lakes one is very nice...

As mentioned above, go for a short term lease. A lot of places will do as low as three months, 6 months, etc. Gives you a chance to look around for better if need be.

Sandra,

I was doing a google search about moving to vegas and your forum came up. I am also from KY (louisville, then to lexington for UK) then moved to Boston for grad school. Now that Im done, Im looking to move to Vegas too, and your questions and research has been very helpful in my planning. Thanks! Im going to get my PhD at UNLV and work there as well. I just wanted to say that Im nervous about moving all the way across the country too, but your q&a has helped me out. Good luck!

Michael
