Oh really. I guess I'd better get my school teacher daughter who has been here since she was three years old, and her daughter who is now six, out of here before they're corrupted by???? What was it they'd be corrupted by again???

We locals have been hearing that stupid comment forever from people who haven't got a clue. BTW: Being prejudiced is not the same as having a clue.

In the early 80's unemployment was bad enough in the country to have had a very negative impact on Las Vegas. Again in the early 90's it was very bad. The interesting thing in the 90's was that although unemployment in Las Vegas was high, the economy didn't really show it that much...except my personal finances were in the toilet.

In 1983 I produced a Job-a-Thon on Ch-3 that brought out thousands of people. We helped a lot of them find jobs. We couldn't have done it without the help of the state Employment Security Division.

In 1991 I needed a job and things were really bad all over the country. Folks at ESD were familiar with my work, and remembered my passion for helping people find jobs, so they hired me (although it may have had more to do with being overloaded with work by the long lines of people at the UI office everyday). After a while they asked me if I'd talk to Ch 3 about doing another Job-a-Thon. The manager there sounded like he wasn't even aware of the unemployment problem. It was barely mentioned on the news for some reason. He said their business had never been better and he didn't want to do the Job-a-Thon for fear it would raise a red flag with advertisers which would cause them to panic and stop spending their ad money.

I asked one of the managers if UI was as high in 91 as it had been in 81, and she said she didn't think the percentage was higher, but because Las Vegas was so much bigger, the number of people filing claims was way more in 91 than in 81.

Nonsense. In fact, the casinos make it very convenient for parents to gamble away their children's college tuition and next month's rent (no mortgage, house was lost long ago) by providing childcare on site in the form of "KidQuest". Also, based on the way I've seen tween-agers dress, local strippers have been participating in the "Take your daughter to work" program.

I'm assuming you have the internet so you can get information about las vegas .The us economy is in rough shape including las Vegas and vicinity. The first thing you will need is a work visa and an actual job good luck on that .As for having a family in las Vegas remember its the city of sin an adults paradise not a place for kids in my opinion. If you still want to try to move here wait for the economy to recover then try.

You never watched the show "Las Vegas". Sam is the concierge played by Vanessa Marcil who could get anything with a phone call.
