I've got a flight out of LAS first thing tomorrow morning, so I called a cab company a little while ago to make a reservation for a pre-dawn pick-up. Lo and behold, I am advised that they don't make appointments; moreover, the dispatcher tells me that she is unaware of any local cab company that does. I've never come across this in any other city in which I've lived.

Well, rather than wait until tomorrow morning to call a company and try to predict how long it might take them to show up (if they show up), I called a limo company instead. As it turns out, the "executive sedan" will only cost about ten bucks more than the cab would have cost anyway. Plus I have the added advantage of being able to sleep tonight without having to worry about whether my ride will show up in the morning.

Ya know, any time I have been in or out of McCarren, there have been tons of cabs just sitting there waiting to take people anywhere. You might have been able to just catch a cab there.

Car service is always nice anyway.. so it sounds like you made out ok after all.

I was trying to make an appointment for pick-up at my house to take me to the airport, not from the airport.

Thanks for posting this info...I had read the other thread but didn't know the taxis didn't take apppointments at all for rides back to the airport. So, looks like the towncar option for me. My ride in (taxi) cost $30, driver didn't speak English well and somewhat missed the turn into my area so had to backtrack a bit. Depending on distance, I'm hoping a sedan won't be more then $45 plus tip.
But yeah, this is the first place I've ever been where cabs didn't take reservations, but I can sorta understand it with the tourists , maybe it doesn't work out well here. Gotta roll with whatever a city hands ya...every place is different and has its own way of doing things.
