I keep hearing how outrageous car insurance is in Vegas. What kind of car are you driving and what's your cost. Thanks to all in advance.

2008 Kia Optima - Full coverage, $290 every six months, a little under $50/mo
2008 Toyota Prius - Full coverage, $380 every six months, a little over $60/mo

I drive the Optima, my girlfriend the Prius - she's younger & puts more miles on it, so that's some of the cost difference. Keep in mind I get multiple discounts with State Farm for having homeowners & two cars all on the same policy. It also helps that I have a clean driving record. We DO keep high deductibles for collision - $1000 (comprehensive we have no deductible).

Apparently, I'm one of the few that gets good rates out here.

The biggest problem I have seen in Las Vegas is that there is no uninsured motorist, requiring full coverage if you don't want be left in the lurch when one of those vehicles with no plates here hits you and doesn't stop. Two insurance agents have told me this. If they are in error, I would like to know. My insurance went from 273 for 6 months to 479 when I moved here, and I have no tickets, accidents or other malfeasance.

I think the idea of removing plates on selling a car is good in principle, but the bad side effect is that way too many vehicles are now driving around without them, encouraging hit and runs and the reluctance to offer uninsured motorist here. I don't know why my same insurance company offers uninsured motorist in my home state but not here--that's whacked. Now I have to pay 200 extra for collision to cover somebody else's lack of financial responsibility. Any enlightenment would be appreciated.
